摘要: There is disclosed an image reading apparatus in which the scanning optical system having a slit is caused to scan in a short-side direction of the slit, and light passed through the slit and reflected from or transmitted through an original is guided to a solid-state image pickup element through an optical image forming element so that the image is formed on the solid-state image pickup element and is read. In the apparatus, opening portions for detecting a shift in relative positional relationship between the slit and the solid-state image pickup element are formed in both end portions of the slit in its longitudinal direction corresponding to a portion other than an effective image region of the solid-state image pickup element.

摘要: The object of this invention is to read an image (scan flow), when an original is being moved, above a scan flow glass member, so as to prevent degradation in image caused by dust or a scar on a scan flow glass. In order to achieve this object, the original which is being moved is illuminated by an illumination system comprised of an illumination light source and reflecting member and different from an illumination system in a reading apparatus body and comprised of an illumination light source and reflecting member. After a reflected light beam passes through a slit and the scan flow glass member, it forms an image on a line sensor, e.g., a CCD, by an imaging lens through a movable mirror. As the original moves at a constant speed, it is read by the line sensor, e.g., a CCD, at a predetermined timing, thereby obtaining image information of the original. The original is located above the scan flow glass member. Even if dust or a scar of about several tens μm is present on the scan flow glass member, it goes out of focus, so it can be prevented from forming an absent point of the line sensor such as a CCD.

摘要: Disclosed is an image reading apparatus in which the amount of illumination light is increased and adverse influence of reflective illumination is reduced, and which is capable of reading image information of an original, such as a document, with high precision. The image reading apparatus includes an illuminating unit for illuminating image information of the original placed on an original support, and an image forming unit for imaging the image information on a reading unit. In the image reading apparatus, the illuminating unit includes a plurality of light source portions, the image information is read in a two-dimensional manner by changing a relative position between the image information and the reading unit, and the plurality of light source portions are disposed asymmetrically with respect to an optical axis of the image forming unit in a sub-scanning cross-sectional plane.

摘要: The present invention relates to an electrophotographic technique for enhancing the quality of a reproduced image of character information and image information having an intermediate gradient.A latent image forming means provides a plurality of preset .gamma.-features and a plurality of sharpness features forsetting a resolving power of an image to be formed which can be selected optionally, and, in the latent image forming means, when a particular sharpness feature is set in response to a .gamma.-feature selected from the aforementioned .gamma.-features. In the reproduction of character image information, a .gamma.-feature for enabling the image reproduction to enhance the edge effect is selected, thereby emphasizing the sharpness feature. Whereas, in the reproduction of the image information to reproduce an intermediate gradient, a .gamma.-feature for enabling the reproduction of the intermediate gradient is selected, thereby weakening the sharpness feature.

摘要: Disclosed is an image reading apparatus capable of selectively executing a flow-scan reading method in which a document is read while the document is transported in a state in which a reader is fixed at a predetermined location, and a fixed reading method in which a document is read while the reader is moved in a predetermined direction in a state in which the document is held fixed, the apparatus having a first holding member for holding a document at the predetermined location for implementation of the flow-scan reading method, and a second holding member, which has a spectral transmittance different from that of the first holding member, for holding a document for implementation of the fixed reading method. The apparatus discriminates whether the flow-scan or fixed reading method is executed and sets coefficients, which are used in at least the reader or the image processing unit, in accordance with the flow-scan or fixed reading method. Using the set coefficients, a document is read by the reader and processing is applied to the image signal obtained by reading the document.

摘要: In an image reading apparatus, an image is illuminated to be guided as a light beam to a photosensitive drum through an image forming lens. Light amount correcting members are attached to a movable member movably attached relatively to the image forming lens. The movable member moves in the optical axis direction in accordance with movement of the image forming lens, and one of the light amount correcting members farther from the image forming lens is caused to face a corresponding surface of the image forming lens so as to intercept a part of the light beam from the image in association with the movement of the movable member. The other of the light amount correcting members closer to the image forming lens is caused to retract from a corresponding surface of the image forming lens in association with the movement of the movable member.

摘要: An image forming apparatus which varies the blending ratio by which color-seperated image signals are blended together to form a monochromatic image. The apparatus inputs a plurality of image signals which have been color-separated, and synthesizes the plurality of image signals by blending to form a monochromatic image. A density regulating mechanism regulates the density of the monochromatic image to a predetermined density level, and the apparatus varies the blending ratio of the synthesized plurality of image signals based on the predetermined density level.
