    摘要: A disc defect management method and apparatus using a defect management area that can be updated, and a write once disc incorporating the method. A data area is disposed between a lead-in area and a lead-out area. The disc includes a defect management area (DMA) that is present in at least one of the lead-in area or the lead-out area, wherein defect information and defect management information are repeatedly recorded in the DMA according to a recording operation. Accordingly, the disc defect management method and apparatus enable effective use of the defect management area. The method is also applicable to a multi layer disc having a user data area on each layer. The defect information and the defect management information for an individual defect may include cumulative defect information and defect management information related to previously identified defects.

    摘要: A video recording/playback system includes in its recording electronics time-base correctors both for luma signal and for color-under signal, the time-base corrector for luma signal being used to facilitate comb filtering and the time-base corrector for chroma signal being used to maintain luma/chroma tracking during recording. The video recording/playback system includes in its playback electronics time-base correctors both for played-back luma signal and for played-back color-under signal, the time-base corrector for played-back luma signal being used to facilitate comb filtering and the time-base corrector for played-back chroma signal being used to maintain luma/chroma tracking during playback. With appropriate switching, the same pair of time-base correctors can be used in both the recording and the playback electronics of a video recording/playback system. A detector in the recording electronics determines when there is substantial time-base error in the video signal received for recording and conditions the comb filtering of the luma signal during recording to be carried out in just the spatial domain and not in the frame-to-frame time domain. The recording electronics includes circuitry for signaling the playback electronics, via a recorded signal, that the comb filtering of the luma signal during recording was carried out in just the spatial domain and not in the frame-to-frame time domain. The playback electronics responds to such signaling to adapt the comb filtering of the played-back luma signal to suit.

    摘要: Apparatus is disclosed for processing the chroma and luminance signals reproduced from a magnetic recording medium. The chroma signal in passing through a separate path from the luminance signal may suffer a phase displacement relative to the phase of the reference luminance signal. Means are provided for connection between the chroma channel and the luminance channel to generate an error signal representing the phase displacement of the chroma signal relative to the reference luminance signal. Additional means are provided to use this phase error signal to restore the phase of the chroma signal to its original phase relative to the reference luminance signal, whereby to insure the accuracy with which the signals modulating the chroma carrier can be demodulated.
