Abstract: Methods and systems for managing content items are described. A content item may be separated into components, such as chroma components, luminance components, and audio components. For more efficient management of the content, including for storage and delivery of the content, the separate components may be stored at different locations. For example, chroma components may be stored on a central server, while luminance and audio components are stored at other locations, such as edge servers, or vice versa, to accommodate network efficiency considerations. When content is delivered to a player, two or more separate streams carrying different content components may be delivered to the player.

Abstract: Systems and methods for reducing interference between content play and video recording among multiple devices located proximate to each other. Microphones of devices recording video are muted, or content play is interrupted, according to the actions of a majority of nearby devices. For example, if most devices are recording video, content play may be interrupted to prevent the video from unintentionally recording unwanted sounds from play of the content. Conversely, if most devices are not recording video, only those devices which are may have their microphones muted. Actions to reduce interference may be taken according to the current behavior of a majority of proximate devices.

Abstract: An electronic device can be synchronized with a broadcast of a live sporting event to obtain supplemental sports data over a data network from a server storing data associated with the live sporting event. Supplemental sports data is obtained from the server for display on the electronic device following a triggering activity associated with the broadcast of the live sporting event. Supplemental sports data can be transmitted for rendering on a display associated with the electronic device. Supplemental sports data can include display of an instant replay video of a sports athlete combined with audio of a pre-recorded statement by the sports athlete associated with the instant replay video, an announcement of a score change for a sporting event monitored by the electronic device, and a display of a football widget providing updates on football game status (e.g., possession, ball location, current score) monitored by the electronic device.

Abstract: A digital jukebox (14) allows for playback of a first offering and a second offering. The contents of each offering are individually licensed for public performance at a particular location where the jukebox is found. The jukebox (14) displays advertisements that are selected in response to user interaction with the jukebox or a number of other factors. The jukebox (14) features a screen (18 and 20) that allows user to interact with the jukebox to select offerings, but also to respond to advertising. Jukebox can function in cooperation with a server (12), but in the alternate, can function as an independent and stand-alone device when connection (16) to server (12) is not available.

Abstract: An electronic device has one or more processors, a display, and memory. The memory stores one or more programs configured for execution by the one or more processors. The device receives, from a content delivery network, a program manifest including one or more video segments of a video. The electronic device parses the program manifest to identify a timeline for the video that spans the video segments. The electronic device receives, from a social-networking server, a playback offset for the video. In accordance with the playback offset and the timeline for the video, the electronic device determines a designated video segment and a playback position within the designated video segment. The electronic device then plays the video segments sequentially on the electronic device, commencing at the playback position within the designated video segment.

Abstract: Media device systems and methods synchronize video content with audio content presented by a plurality of wireless audio headsets. In an exemplary embodiment, a first time delay corresponds to a first duration of time between communication of the audio content from the media device and presentation of the audio content by a first wireless audio headset. A second time delay corresponds to a second duration of time between communication of the audio content from the media device and presentation of the audio content by a second wireless audio headset, wherein the first time delay is greater than the second time delay. Video content communicated to a display is delayed by the first time delay. Audio content communicated to the second wireless audio headset is delayed by a time delay difference between the first time delay and the second time delay.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for combining metadata with video into a video stream using a 32-bit aligned payload, that is computer storage efficient and human discernable. The metadata is stored in a track in a self-describing structure. Metadata track may be decoded using an identifier reference table that is substantially smaller than typical fourCC identifier tables. The combined metadata/video stream is compatible with a standard video stream convention and may be played using conventional media player applications that reads media files compliant with MP4/MOV container format. The proposed format may enable decoding of metadata during streaming, partitioning of combined video stream without loss of metadata. The proposed format and/or metadata protocol provides for temporal synchronization of metadata with video frames.
