摘要: An acoustic energy-based, non-contact or contact testing approach provides low cost, highly accurate, and reliable information to (a) identify flaws and anomalies and (b) assess the integrity of a particular material. This approach is not hindered by surface conditions or impediments, and indeed, looks beneath the surface of the material by propagating an acoustic wave through the material using two differential transducers. A dynamic differential measurement is made of the material under a load condition and an unloaded condition that allows identification and assessment of various characteristics of the material. Multiple “windows” of information may be generated that permit (a) direct detection of flaws, defects, and anomalies using a scattering technique, (b) detection of crack closure and opening used to assess the stability of the material, (c) determination of strain on the material which relates to its performance, and (d) determination of defect dynamics linked to the defect size and stability.

摘要: A method and apparatus for dynamic allocation of conferencing resources in a telecommunications system is provided. The method and apparatus provide for dynamic allocation of conferencing resources in two forms, first a predefined order of allocation of time slots for use in conferencing is described. This predefined order of allocation minimizes the risk that a conference will be interrupted if additional line cards are added to the system while the conference is in progress. The second form of dynamic allocation of resources involves locating and selecting the digital signal processing (DSP) resources to perform the conferencing function. For this allocation, the conference type is first identified. The conference will be determined to be a static, dynamic or critical conference by the CPU/Matrix card. Based upon this determination, the DSP circuit with the appropriate resources for that conference type is selected. For example, if the conference is determined to be dynamic, i.e., it is likely to change in size, then a DSP with additional available channels will preferably be selected. If a conference is critical, then the same type of DSP is selected, but further conferences are blocked from being added to that DSP. A static conference will be allocated to a DSP on a best-fit basis.

摘要: A water quality monitor computer (10) repeatedly accesses transducers (12) which monitor physical properties of a water system, such as total dissolved solids, pH, and the like. The water quality monitor computer determines from the monitored water conditions when bleeding or the addition of water treatment chemicals is required. An energy and water management computer (20) periodically accesses the water quality computer and operates valves and pumps (22) to bleed the system or add chemicals, as is appropriate. The management computer further monitors the quantity of chemical supplies on hand with chemical inventory transducers (24), the amount of electrical energy consumed with kilowatt transducer (28) and the like. The energy and water management computer controls energy usage and stores energy and chemical consumption data in a memory (40). A polling station (B) selectively polls one or more of the remote stations to change the energy or water management programs or to receive data and water system physical property data therefrom. One of the polling stations includes a central computer (250) which polls each remote station daily. The central computer causes a printer ( 254) to generate daily reports indicating abnormal conditions at each remote station and to generate shipping orders and invoices for replacement chemicals as replacement becomes necessary. The central polling computer also generates a monthly report of energy and chemical consumption, water treatment system physical property data, energy savings, and the like.

摘要: A programmable telecommunications switch has automatic backup of line cards to provide complete redundancy. The switch has I/O cards which terminate the external telecommunications spans. Each I/O card passes the data from its spans to a line card. When the line card fails, the I/O card switches the data onto an I/O bus which is connected to a standby I/O card. The standby I/O card switches a standby line card into connection with the I/O bus such that the data stream is then serviced by the standby line card. The failed line card may then be removed and replaced. All I/O cards are attached to the I/O bus such that redundancy for all active line cards using the same signalling protocol is provided with a single standby line card. With multiple I/O busses, standby I/O cards and standby line cards, multiple redundancy is possible. Finally, the failure of a single line module of a line card may be handled by switching only the span serviced by that module to a standby line card. Spans from different I/O cards may be serviced by different line modules of a single standby line card, and may be all connected to the same standby line card by the same bus.

摘要: An antiretrieval device for a currency validator of the slot acceptor type. A set of teeth is interposed between the cash box and the note path and in operative engagement with a punch plate. The punch plate and teeth define a shear to cut any string or tape which might be attached to a piece of currency tendered for validation. The teeth are maintained at the end of a spring-biased portion of a plate which is clamped and otherwise secured to a portion of the housing of the currency validator.
