Abstract:
A portable energy meter test system for testing energy meters and other related instrumentation on-site is disclosed. The test system utilizes waveform generating circuitry to generate and transmit electrical waveforms to an energy meter to be tested, and sensing circuitry for sensing electrical characteristics corresponding to the transmitted electrical waveform. The test system includes a processor for evaluation and control of the testing procedure. A graphic touch screen is coupled to the processor for displaying information about the energy meter and for displaying test options to the user and allowing the user to control the testing process by touching the screen.

Abstract:
A turbocharger rotor has a turbine wheel and shaft, a compressor wheel and adapter and a separate thrust runner clamped together by a fastener rod. The adapter is piloted on the shaft and the thrust runner is piloted on the adapter, which has annular ends engaging the shaft and adapter for torque transmission between the turbine and compressor wheels. An anti-rotation coupling relates the phase angles of the shaft with the adapter and the thrust runner during assembly. Opposed radial thrust faces on the thrust runner and adapter are disposed at opposite ends of a compressor bearing journal on the adapter to allow placement of mating bearings on a single element of a turbocharger housing. Advantages include simplification of manufacture and assembly of the rotor in a turbocharger housing.
Abstract:
An electrical test switch having a pair of spaced conductive rotors provided with matching cut-outs, the rotors being movable between a "normal" position and a "test" position. At least two spaced conductive contacts extend within a region between the rotors. The cut-outs and the conductive contacts are arranged so that the contacts wipe against the rotors when the rotors are in the "normal" position and at least one of the spaced contacts is aligned with the cut-outs when the rotors are in the "test" position. A shaft locks the switch in the "normal" position until manually released.
Abstract:
A system for calibrating an energy meter is provided. The energy meter has a rotor which rotates at an angular velocity generally proportional to the energy input to the meter. A reference transducer receives an energy input for generating a reference signal having a predetermined parameter, such as frequency, generally proportional to the energy input. A test apparatus is responsive to rotation of the rotor to generate a test signal having a predetermined parameter, such as frequency, generally proportional to the angular velocity of the rotor. An error signal generator receives the reference signal and the test signal upon fractional rotation of the rotor and generates an error signal to indicate the amount of error between the frequency of the test signal and a calibration value corresponding to the frequency of the reference signal. The meter is calibrated based on the error signal. A related method is also disclosed for calibrating the meter.
Abstract:
A heat sensitive abnormal current condition detecting and indicating device associated with a watthour meter indicates that a possibly damaging surge has been experienced by the meter. The abnormal condition detecting and indicating device includes indicator means retained in normal position by a heat sensitive material, such as solder, with the indicator means being biased to move from the normal position to an abnormal condition position should the conductor being monitored experience a heat rise sufficient to soften the heat sensitive material and release the indicator means. A plurality of embodiments of the heat sensitive abnormal condition detecting and indicating device are shown including a rod maintained in normal position within a tube under spring bias with the rod being movable longitudinally to thereafter extend from the tube to indicate a possible abnormality when a monitored conductor experiences a heat rise sufficient to melt solder holding the rod in normal position, a flag mounted on a rotatable wheel and rod assembly maintained in a rotational normal position with a spring bias thereon so that the wheel and rod assembly rotates to a position wherein the flag indicates an abnormal condition when a monitored conductor experiences a heat rise sufficient to melt solder holding the wheel and rod assembly in normal position, and a spring arm held against the monitored conductor by means of solder so that a possibly damaging surge experienced sufficient to heat the conductor and melt the solder frees the spring load arm to spring outwardly for visually indicating that a possible abnormal condition has occurred.
Abstract:
A centrifugal compressor includes an annular inlet air recirculation channel having a smoothly variable cross section extending from a first slot at a forward end of the channel adjacent an inlet member to a second slot at a rearward end of the channel beyond an inlet end of a vaned compressor impeller. The channel is formed between an aerodynamic channel ring supported in a smooth annular recess formed in a compressor housing and the separate inlet member. The ring may be mounted by radial struts connected with the housing and located in an area of low momentum air flow. The channel ring and the channel recess may be machined or otherwise formed with smoothly variable surfaces prior to assembly of the ring into the housing. The channel may have a smoothly diminishing annular cross section for aerodynamically efficient air flow.
Abstract:
A combined laser beam shutter and beam "on-off" indicator is disclosed. A rotatable shutter pin is mounted in a beam interrupting positon with the shutter having an aperture thereon which, when the pin is rotated to the proper position, permits passage of the light therethrough. The shutter pin is adapted, when in closed position, to reflect visible light caused by the laser to a position for observation thereby indicating that the beam is "on".
