Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a flywheel comprising a flywheel structure including a hub portion having an axis, an inner end, and an outer end spaced axially from the inner end, a central flange portion extending radially outwardly from the outer end of the hub portion in generally perpendicular relation to the axis of the hub portion, and having a circular outer periphery, an outer portion including a generally cylindrical wall part extending from the outer periphery of the central flange portion in generally spaced and parallel relation to the hub portion and including an end axially adjacent the inner end of the hub portion, and a plurality of exit openings located in the central flange portion and permitting air flow relative to the central flange portion, and a fan structure including a like plurality of inclined vanes located between the exit openings and extending, in inclined relation in the rotary direction counter to the intended direction of flywheel rotation, and operable to cause air flow through the exit openings.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is an internal combustion engine comprising first and second cylinders respectively including head ends and side walls, first and second pistons respectively reciprocably movable in the first and second cylinders between top dead center and bottom dead center positions, one of the first and second pistons being adjacent top dead center position when the other of the first and second pistons is adjacent bottom dead center position, a fuel supply venturi extending between the cylinders and including a throat, and a fuel injector located adjacent the head ends of the first and second cylinders, communicating with the throat, and including a valve movable between a closed position and an open position affording fuel flow into the throat.
Abstract:
A capacitor discharge ignition circuit adapted for use with an internal combustion engine, the circuit comprising a charge capacitor, a primary ignition coil, an ignition SCR, a first spark retard circuit in series with the charge capacitor, the ignition SCR, and the primary coil and operative for selectively preventing discharge of the capacitor through the primary coil for a first predetermined period of time after the ignition SCR is rendered conductive, thereby providing for automatic spark retard at higher engine rpm, a second spark retard circuit connectable to the first spark retard circuit for further preventing discharge of the capacitor through the primary coil for a second predetermined period of time in addition to the first predetermined period of time after the ignition SCR is rendered conductive, and a switch connecting the second spark retard circuit to the first spark retard circuit when the engine is in neutral.
Abstract:
A control device for a spark ignition internal combustion engine, the engine including a throttle valve, an exhaust valve, and a spark timing device, the control device comprising a first linkage adapted to be operatively connected to the throttle valve, a second linkage adapted to be operatively connected to the exhaust valve, a third linkage adapted to be operatively connected to the spark timing device, and a control linkage interconnecting the first, second, and third linkages for providing coordinated control of the throttle valve, the exhaust valve, and the spark timing device.
Abstract:
An apparatus for delivering power to a power driven device comprises an engine having a combustion chamber and including a compression relief system for venting the combustion chamber with the atmosphere on a selective basis. The apparatus further includes a transmission mechanism for operatively connecting the engine with the power driven device, which transmission mechanism has a drive position for powering the power driven device and a neutral position for operatively disconnecting the engine from the power driven device. A compression relief control mechanism permits venting through the compression relief system when the transmission mechanism is in the neutral position and prevents venting through the compression relief system when the transmission mechanism is in the drive position.
