    Abstract: A motion sensor for detection motion of humans is provided. The motion sensor contains a near infrared (NIR) low resolution image sensor that captures image frames in the near infrared spectrum and a sensor that detects the amount of visible light. In addition, a processor is connected to the visible light sensor and the NIR motion sensor. The processor is configured to receive the amount of visible light from the visible light sensor and the images from the NIR low resolution image sensor. The processor is further configured to compare the image frames to detect motion; the sensitivity of the detection of motion is determined by the amount of visible light detected by the visible light sensor. The output has two or modes based on the detection of motion by the processor.

In addition, the apparatus includes a light source controller to control a light source to change an intensity of the light emitted by the light source. Furthermore, the apparatus includes a boundary detector to detect a room boundary. The apparatus also includes a device sensor to determine a position of a proximate device. The apparatus further includes a communications interface to communicate with the proximate device to transmit measured data to the proximate device and to receive device data from the proximate device. Also, the apparatus includes a processor to calculate a lighting power density based on the proximate device data and the measured data. The lighting power density is to be used by the light source controller to adjust the power used to emit the light.

    Abstract: A system and a method for automatically creating and operating a functional association of multiple luminaires is proposed. The system consists of two or more devices that each contain one or more sensors, logic processing circuitry and communication circuitry that is able to transmit messages between devices. The set of devices that constitute the members of a functional association is selected from a larger set of candidate devices. The selection process involves each device comparing the sensor data received from neighbouring devices relating to occupancy and daylight sensors against the device's occupancy and daylight sensor data.
