Abstract: A communication device including a first directional antenna and a second directional antenna which may each be set to any one of a plurality of main beam directions for radio communication, a transceiver configured to determine a reception quality for at least some of the plurality of main beam directions using the first directional antenna and for at least some of the plurality of main beam directions using the second directional antenna, select a main beam direction of the plurality of main beam directions based on the reception qualities determined by the first directional antenna and based on the reception qualities determined by the second directional antenna, and perform communication using the selected main beam direction.

Abstract: A method for radio communication is described comprising receiving a millimeter wave signal via a radio communication from a transmit antenna by means of a receive antenna, wherein at least one of the transmit antenna and the receive antenna is a directional antenna with adjustable directivity, determining a reception quality of the millimeter wave signal as received by the receive antenna for a first directivity of the directional antenna, reducing the directivity of the directional antenna to a second directivity based on whether the reception quality is above a required reception quality and continuing the radio communication with the second directivity.

Abstract: A random access procedure is described for beam-based cell-less operations in fifth generation radio access technology. In one example a preamble transmission power, a preamble format, and a transmit timing are jointly determined at a user equipment (UE) for respective ones of one or more physical random access channel (PRACH) preamble transmissions. The determined preamble transmission powers, preamble formats, and transmit timing, multiple PRACH preamble transmissions are transmitted each to a target access point (AP). Based on the transmitted PRACH preamble transmissions, the UE the receives at least one random access response (RAR) message with an indication of timing advance (TA) values and beams of each target AP.

Abstract: Embodiments may be directed to techniques to determine physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) candidates to assign to a user equipment (UE) based on one or more aggregation levels, each PDCCH candidate in a highest aggregation level of the one or more aggregation levels assigned by a random distribution over a whole control channel element (CCE) domain, and each PDCCH candidate in one or more non-highest aggregation levels of the one or more aggregation levels assigned a random distribution over one or more CCEs utilized by PDCCH candidates of the highest aggregation level. Embodiments also include selecting at least one of the PDCCH candidates to utilize to send downlink control information (DCI) to the UE, and causing transmission of the DCI to the UE via the PDCCH candidates selected.

Abstract: A mobile terminal device includes a radio processing circuit and a baseband processing circuit adapted to interact with the radio processing circuit. The mobile terminal device is configured to identify a first set of frequency resources allocated for a wireless channel by a mobile communication network, calculate a first channel response estimate for a second set of frequency resources of the wireless channel using a reference signal derived from a second mobile terminal device, wherein the reference signal is distributed across the second set of frequency resources of wireless channel, calculate a second channel response estimate for the first set of frequency resources of the wireless channel using the first channel response estimate, and apply the second channel response estimate to schedule data transmission intended for the second mobile terminal device over the wireless channel.

An apparatus of user equipment (UE) for BWP activation and deactivation operation is disclosed. The apparatus includes baseband circuitry that includes a radio frequency (RF) interface, and one or more processors. The one or more processors are to receive radio resource control (RRC) data via the RF interface, configure a timer for a BWP according to the RRC data, and trigger the timer for the BWP in response to detection of an event associated with an access node after the BWP has been activated.
