The method includes: setting, by a controller, a limited torque to a motor torque and comparing an input speed of the transmission and a minimum speed of the engine when converting from an EV driving mode to an HEV driving mode. The controller is configured to start the engine when the input speed of the transmission is equal to or greater than a minimum threshold point and is equal to or less than a minimum speed of the engine. Further, the method includes increasing the motor torque to exceed the preset limited torque, coupling the first clutch when the engine speed and a motor speed are synchronized, and coupling the second clutch when the input speed of the transmission exceeds the minimum speed of the engine by the controller.

Disclosed a system and method of learning and controlling a torque transmission kiss point of an engine clutch. In particular, a determination is made as to whether power transference to a transmission transmitting an output from the engine and the motor has been interrupted, and whether the engine is being driven. The motor is then controlled so that a speed of the motor is maintained at a set speed different from a speed of revolutions of the engine when the power transference to the transmission has been interrupted and the engine is being driven. A state change of the motor is then detected while increasing hydraulic pressure applied to the engine clutch at a set ratio and a torque transmission kiss point of the engine clutch is calculated based on the state change of the motor.

More specifically, target power of a battery is determined. Then calculations are performed to determine target torque of the first motor, target torque of the second motor, target torque of an engine, and target speed of the engine at a steady state. The torque of the first motor at a transient state is calculated from the target torque of the second motor at the steady state and speeds of the first and second motors. Finally, torque of the second motor at the transient state is calculated from the torque of the first motor at the transient state and the speeds of the first and second motors.
