摘要: The disclosed systems and methods for detecting a location of reflection in an optical link comprising: i) receiving an optical signal; ii) receiving a plurality of first type of delayed optical signals corresponding to the optical signal; iii) determining a first type of time delays associated with each of the plurality of first type of delayed optical signals; iv) receiving a plurality of second type of delayed optical signals corresponding to the optical signal; v) determining a second type of time delays associated with the each of the plurality of second type of delayed optical signals; vi) computing relative delays from the second type of time delays; vii) comparing the relative delays with the first type of time delays; and viii) determining a location of a given optical element contributing to the reflections based on the given relative delay and the location of the AR.

摘要: There is provided a method and apparatus for evaluating nonlinear impairment of an optical fiber link. The method includes partitioning a natural span of the optical fiber link into multiple sub-spans, each of the multiple sub-spans determined based on chromatic dispersion (CD) equivalence; The method further includes for each of the multiple sub-spans, acquiring sub-span function parameters and a sub-span input power indicative of input power at a particular sub-span, the sub-span function parameters including noise variance and correlations between the particular sub-span and others of the multiple sub-spans. The method additionally includes determining the nonlinear impairment of the optical fiber link based on the sub-span input power and the sub-span function parameters acquired for each of the multiple sub-spans.

摘要: During optical performance monitoring in low SNR conditions, the detection of pilot data may be more difficult because the detector may mistake noise for the pilot data signal. Systems and methods are disclosed herein that try to address this problem. In one embodiment, a pilot tone detector processes the received signal to determine a maximum correlation peak, and then performs tracking of the correlation peak over time. Unlike the pilot data signal, noise is typically more transient in nature. Therefore, if a correlation peak does not actually correspond to the pilot data signal, but instead corresponds to noise, then the correlation peak typically disappears over time when tracked. A search for a new correlation peak may then be performed. When a correlation peak is determined that actually corresponds to the pilot data signal, then the correlation peak typically remains when tracked.

The OTDR module is configured to generate the OTDR signal, to monitor a returned light signal, to determine transmitter noise compensation information, and to generate OTDR trace information using transmitter noise compensation information and the monitored returned light signal.
