Abstract: The present disclosure provides a magnetic system within a case for an electronic accessory. The case may include a housing portion and a lid coupled to the housing portion. Within the housing portion may be a housing magnet. The housing magnet may be oriented such that the magnetic field of the housing magnet is oriented transverse to a longitudinal axis of the case. The housing magnet may have a size and strength to magnetically couple the electronic accessory within a cavity of the housing. A hinge magnet may be located along an axis of rotation of the lid with respect to the housing. The hinge magnet and housing magnet may magnetically interact to form a bistable magnetic hinge. Thus, the one housing magnet may be large enough and have a strong enough magnetic field to perform various functions.

Abstract: A light ring assembly for a smart-home device may include a plurality of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and a light guide, where the light guide may include a plurality of cutouts that receive the plurality of LEDs, and a plurality of transmissive sections between the plurality of cutouts where a thickness of the transmissive sections tapers as the transmissive sections extend away from the plurality of cutouts. The light ring assembly may also include an output surface that receives light emitted from the plurality of LEDs through the plurality of transmissive sections, where the output surface is substantially circular.

Abstract: Systems and techniques are provided for sensor device. A sensor device may include a housing, a lens inserted into a first opening of the housing, a metal mask covering a portion of the interior of the lens, a passive infrared (PIR) sensor underneath the lens and the metal mask, and a light pipe around the PIR sensor, the lens, and the metal mask. Part of the light pipe may be positioned above an activation mechanism for a button. An airflow gasket may be around the PIR sensor. A filter circuit board may be under the PIR sensor and connected to leads of the PIR sensor. A control circuit board may include the activation mechanism for the button. A backplate may include a slot for attachment to a snap of a magazine in the housing of the sensor device.

Abstract: A magnetic bistable hinge system includes a hinge bracket, first and second magnets, and a rotatble member. The first magnet may be coupled to the hinge bracket and be configured to rotate about an axis of the hinge bracket from a first bistable position to a second bistable position. When the south pole of the first magnet is at a first angle relative to the south pole of the second magnet, the first magnet and the second magnets are in the first bistable position and the rotatable member is in a closed position relative to the hinge bracket. When the south pole of the first magnet is at a second angle relative to the south pole of the second magnet, the first and second magnets are at the second bistable position, and the rotatable member is rotated to an open position relative to the hinge bracket.

Abstract: Various arrangements for light distribution incorporated as part of a device are presented. A circular light guide may be used that receives light from a plurality of light emitters that can be arranged in a circular pattern. A conical reflector may be used and may be positioned to reflect light emitted from the circular light guide onto an exterior of a case of the device. The conical reflector may reflect light such that light is reflected by the exterior of the case in the shape of a halo into an ambient environment of the device.
