Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for directing the flow of recirculated exhaust gas (EGR) delivered to an EGR cooler. In one example, a method includes flowing EGR through an EGR cooler positioned in an EGR passage, the EGR cooler comprising a bypass passage, a first cooler core flow path, and a second cooler core flow path, and adjusting a valve of the EGR cooler to selectively block flow of the EGR through the bypass passage, the first cooler core flow path, and the second cooler core flow path. In this way, fouling of the EGR cooler may be reduced.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for diagnosing a cylinder valve deactivation mechanism in an engine system having cam-actuated valves. Movement of a latch pin of the deactivation mechanism is inferred from an induction current generated by a solenoid coupled to the latch pin, and the inferred movement is used to diagnose operation of cylinder valve deactivation mechanism. The inferred movement and a profile of the induction current is also used to estimate camshaft and crankshaft timing for improved cylinder fuel delivery in the absence of a camshaft sensor.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for a compressor adapted with a movable sleeve and an active casing treatment that form separate air flow chambers. In one example, a method includes flowing intake air in a first direction through a casing to an impeller of a compressor, selectively flowing intake air from the casing through a first chamber in an opposite, second direction, the first chamber circumferentially surrounding the casing, and selectively flowing intake air in the first direction through a second chamber to the impeller, the second chamber circumferentially surrounding the first chamber. In this way, compressor surge may be mitigated without reducing compressor efficiency at higher air flow rates.

In one example, a turbine wastegate couples a single exhaust runner out of a plurality of exhaust runners of the blowdown exhaust manifold to an exhaust passage, downstream of a turbocharger turbine. Additionally, the turbine wastegate may couple the single exhaust runner to the exhaust passage, downstream of the turbocharger turbine arranged in the exhaust passage.
