Abstract: Provided are a cholesteric liquid crystal layer having an excellent reflection anisotropy, a low haze, and a high circular polarization degree of reflected light, and a method for producing the same. In addition, provided are a laminate, an optically anisotropic body, and a reflective film, each of which including the cholesteric liquid crystal layer. A cholesteric liquid crystal layer formed using a liquid crystal compound, in which, in at least one main plane out of a pair of main planes of the cholesteric liquid crystal layer, a direction of a molecular axis of the liquid crystal compound changes while continually rotating along at least one in-plane direction, the molecular axis of the liquid crystal compound is tilted with respect to the main plane of the cholesteric liquid crystal layer, and an arrangement direction of bright portions and dark portions derived from the cholesteric liquid crystalline phase, as observed under a scanning electron microscope in a cross section perpendicular to the main plane, is tilted with respect to the main plane of the cholesteric liquid crystal layer.

In a vehicle minor with an image display function according to the invention, image visibility is hardly reduced by outside light.

Abstract: Provided are a plant-growth laminated film and a plant-growth illumination apparatus that more efficiently provide circularly polarized light used for plant growth. Included are a reflective-type linearly polarizing plate that transmits one of linearly polarized light components of incident light and that reflects the other linearly polarized light component, and a λ/4 plate that converts, into circularly polarized light, linearly polarized light provided by transmission through the reflective-type linearly polarizing plate, wherein the λ/4 plate has an in-plane retardation of 165±40 nm at a wavelength of 660 nm.

Abstract: Due to the present invention, a reflection member including two or more layers of fixed cholesteric liquid crystal phases, in which the two or more layers of fixed cholesteric liquid crystal phases exhibit central wavelengths of mutually different selective reflection, and the two or more layers of fixed cholesteric liquid crystal phases include a layer formed of a composition including a disc-like liquid crystal compound and a layer formed of a composition including a rod-like liquid crystal compound and a projected image display member and a heat shield member which include the reflection member are provided. The reflection member of the present invention has favorable selective reflection characteristics with respect to oblique incidence rays.

Abstract: According to the invention, there is provided a circular polarizing filter for selectively transmitting circularly polarized light of any one sense of either right-handed circularly polarized light or left-handed circularly polarized light at a specific wavelength in which scattering transmittance/vertical transmittance when circularly polarized light of the sense of the specific wavelength enters from any one surface is less than scattering reflectance/regular reflectance when circularly polarized light of the other sense enters from the surface. The circular polarizing filter includes a circularly-polarized light separating layer, the circularly-polarized light separating layer includes a reflected light-scattering circularly-polarized light separating layer, and may further include a reflected light-non-scattering circularly-polarized light separating layer, the reflected light-scattering circularly-polarized light separating layer is composed of a layer having a cholesteric liquid crystalline phase fixed therein, and the reflected light-non-scattering circularly-polarized light separating layer is composed of a layer having a cholesteric liquid crystalline phase fixed therein, or a laminate including a linearly-polarized light separating layer and a λ/4 phase difference layer. The circular polarizing filter of the invention has a high circular polarizance, and a high-sensitivity sensor system can be provided using the circular polarizing filter of the invention.

Abstract: The present invention provides an optical member including a reflection layer and an information presentation layer, the reflection layer comprising one or more circularly-polarized light reflection layers selected from the group consisting of a right circularly-polarized light reflection layer and a left circularly-polarized light reflection layer, the circularly-polarized light reflection layer consisting of a layer obtained by fixing a cholesteric liquid-crystalline phase, the reflection layer having a reflection wavelength at which a specular reflectance for non-polarized light is more than 20% in a wavelength region in which the circularly-polarized light reflection layer exhibits selective reflection, a diffuse reflectance for non-polarized light at the reflection wavelength less than 50%, the reflection wavelength being in an infrared wavelength region, and the information presentation layer having a pattern of a material that absorbs or reflects light of the reflection wavelength. The optical member can be used as a handwriting input sheet, which can be used by being stuck to the surface of a display.
