Abstract: Methods are provided for forming noble metal catalysts comprising both platinum and a second Group VIII metal, such as palladium, with improved aromatic saturation activity. Instead of impregnating a catalyst with both platinum and another Group VIII metal at the same time, a sequential impregnation can be used, with the Group VIII metal being impregnated prior to platinum. It has been discovered that by forming a Group VIII metal-impregnated catalyst first, and then impregnating with platinum, the distribution of platinum throughout the catalyst can be improved. The improved distribution of platinum can result in a catalyst with enhanced aromatic saturation activity relative to a catalyst with a similar composition formed by simultaneous impregnation.

Abstract: Methods for regenerating and/or rejuvenating catalysts, particularly dewaxing catalysts, as well as methods for performing dewaxing of diesel or distillate boiling range feeds with the regenerated and/or rejuvenated catalyst are provided herein. The regeneration and/or rejuvenation methods can include calcining spent catalyst followed by contacting the calcined catalyst with a solution comprising a complexing agent, which can restore hydrotreatment (HDT) activity and dewaxing activity of the spent catalyst such that it may be reused during hydroprocessing.

Abstract: A catalyst composition comprises a self-bound zeolite and a Group 12 transition metal selected from the group consisting of Zn, Cd, or a combination thereof, the zeolite having a silicon to aluminum ratio of at least about 10, the catalyst composition having a micropore surface area of at least about 340 m2/g, a molar ratio of Group 12 transition metal to aluminum of about 0.1 to about 1.3, and at least one of: (a) a mesoporosity of greater than about 20 m2/g; (b) a diffusivity for 2,2-dimethylbutane of greater than about 1×10−2 sec−1 when measured at a temperature of about 120° C. and a 2,2-dimethylbutane pressure of about 60 torr (about 8 kPa).

Abstract: Processes for forming refined hydrocarbons are disclosed. Exemplary processes include providing a first mixture comprising ≧10 wt % of at least one oxygenate; contacting at least a portion of the first mixture with a methanol conversion catalyst under suitable conditions including a first pressure, P1, to yield an intermediate composition including olefins having at least two carbon atoms; introducing at least a portion of the intermediate composition to an oligomerization catalyst under suitable conditions including a second pressure, P2, to yield an effluent mixture comprising gasoline boiling range components and distillate boiling range components; and recovering at least a portion of the gasoline boiling range components and distillate boiling range components. The first and second pressure can be relatively similar. Apparatus and systems for carrying out the disclosed processes are also described.

Abstract: Methods, catalysts, and corresponding catalyst precursors are provided for performing dewaxing of diesel or distillate boiling range fractions. The dewaxing methods, catalysts, and/or catalyst precursors can allow for production of diesel boiling range fuels with improved cold flow properties at desirable yields. The catalysts and/or catalyst precursors can correspond to supported metal catalysts and/or catalyst precursors that include at least one noble metal, such as Pt, at least one Group 8-10 base metal, preferably a non-noble Group 8-10 base metal, such as Ni and/or Co along with a Group 6 metal, such as Mo and/or W as supported metals along. The support can include a zeolitic framework structure. The catalyst precursors can be formed, for example, by impregnating a support including a zeolitic framework structure with impregnation solution(s) that also includes a dispersion agent.

Abstract: Methods and catalysts are provided for performing dewaxing of diesel boiling range fractions, such as trim dewaxing, that allow for production of diesel boiling range fuels with improved cold flow properties at desirable yields. In some aspects, the methods can include use of dewaxing catalysts based on an MEL framework structure (ZSM-11) to provide improved dewaxing activity. This can provide sufficient dewaxing activity to achieve a desired level of improvement in cold flow properties at the lower hydrotreating temperatures that are generally desired near the start of operation of a hydrotreating reactor. In other aspects, the methods can include use of MEL dewaxing catalysts with reduced ratios of molecular sieve to binder so that trim dewaxing can be provided while maintaining a desirable yield under end-of-run hydrotreating conditions.

Abstract: Methods are provided for dewaxing a distillate fuel boiling range feed to improve one or more cold flow properties of the distillate fuel feed, such as cloud point, with reduced consumption of hydrogen during the dewaxing process. The reduced hydrogen consumption is achieved by using a dewaxing catalyst with a reduced content of hydrogenation metals, such as a content of Pt or Pd of from about 0.03 wt % to about 0.35 wt %. A distillate fuel feed can be dewaxed to achieve a desired cloud point differential using a reduced metals content dewaxing catalyst under the same or similar conditions to those required for a dewaxing catalyst with higher metals content.

Abstract: In a process for producing a phosphorus-modified zeolite catalyst, an aqueous reaction mixture comprising a source of silica and a source of an organic directing agent effective to direct the synthesis of a desired zeolite is heated at a temperature and for a time sufficient to produce crystals of the desired zeolite. Wet zeolite crystals can then be separated from the reaction mixture and, without removing all the water from the wet zeolite crystals, the zeolite can be converted into the ammonium form by ion exchange, and the crystals can be treated with a phosphorus compound. The phosphorus-treated, ammonium-exchanged zeolite can then be formed into a catalyst to be heated in one or more stages to remove the water and organic directing agent from the zeolite crystals and to convert the zeolite to the hydrogen form.
