摘要: A process to produce polyalpha-olefins includes contacting a feed stream of at least one alpha-olefin monomer having 4 to 25 carbon atoms with a metallocene catalyst compound and an activator, and optionally an alkyl-aluminum compound, under polymerizations conditions in a reactor. The alpha-olefin monomer is present at 10% volume or more in the reactor and the feed stream includes less than 600 ppm of heteroatom containing compounds. The process further includes obtaining a polyalpha-olefin with at least 50 mole % C5 to C24 alpha-olefin monomer and kinematic viscosity at 100° C. of 5000 cSt or less.

摘要: This disclosure relates to cold cranking simulator viscosity (“CCSV”) boosting base stocks that allow flexibility for engine oil formulations to meet both high and low temperature viscosity requirements while maximizing fuel efficiency. The CCSV-boosting base stocks can include C28-C60 hydrocarbon materials, linear esters, tertiary amides, dialkyl carbonates, aromatic alcohols, and aromatic ethers. This disclosure also relates to lubricating oil formulations containing the CCSV-boosting base stocks, and a method for improving fuel efficiency in an engine by using as the engine oil a lubricating oil formulation containing one or more of the CCSV-boosting base stocks and/or cobase stocks.

摘要: Branched paraffins formed as a hydrogenated reaction product of one or more linear alpha olefins (LAOs) oligomerized with a BF3 catalyst system and comprising at least about 90 wt. % branched paraffin dimers may have advantageous heat transfer properties. Heat transfer fluids comprising the branched paraffins may be placed in contact with a heat- generating component, such as those found in electric vehicles, battery systems, and other locations in need of thermal management. Branched paraffin dimers formed from one or more LAOs having about 8 to about 12 carbon atoms may collectively have a Mouromtseff Number ranging from about 10,000 to about 16,000 kg/(s2.2.m0.6.K) at 80° C., a thermal conductivity at 80° C. of about 0.125 W/m.K or higher, and a flash point of about 140° C. or higher.
