Abstract: An apparatus for managing an inventory of goods stored in multiple bins on a shelving system includes an RFID antenna disposed on an upper shelf of the shelving system. The RFID antenna communicates with RFID tags disposed above the upper shelf RF shielding is disposed between the RFID antenna and lower shelves. An RFID tag is attached to a bin configured to contain the goods. The RFID tag is encoded with information identifying the goods stored in the bin. An RFID reader performs scans to detect RFID tags disposed above the upper shelf. An inventory computer generates a bin detection confirmation message based on the RFID tag being detected by the RFID reader at least a first number of times during a predetermined detection period. The inventory computer also generates a product reorder message based on the RFID tag being detected by the RFID reader at least a second number of times during the predetermined detection period, wherein the second number of times is greater than the first number of times. The product reorder message includes the information identifying the goods stored in the bin.

Abstract: An inventory management system manages information regarding medical items dispensed to a patient in a medical facility. Inventory sensors sense removal of medical items from an inventory space to be dispensed to the patient. Software instructions associate item information with patient information that identifies the patient, determine billing codes associated with the dispensed items, generate billing information including the patient information and the billing codes, and generate an invoice directed to the patient's medical insurance provider. The instructions also verify that the billing codes are associated with medical items appropriate for treatment of the patient's condition indicated by diagnostic codes included in the billing information, and generate an alert message if the billing codes are associated with medical items that are not reimbursable or are inappropriate for treatment of the diagnosed condition. The alert message is sent to the physician who diagnosed the patient and provided the diagnostic code.

Abstract: An apparatus for monitoring and replenishing an inventory of goods includes a first inventory area and a first movable structure having a first optical code associated with the first distinct inventory area. The first movable structure is placed in a replenishment signaling area after a supply of goods in the inventory area has been depleted. Boundary optical codes are disposed near a boundary of the replenishment signaling area. A camera generates periodic images of the replenishment signaling area and the boundary optical codes. A computer processor detects the boundary optical codes in the images and determines a boundary line of the replenishment signaling area based thereon. The processor determines a spatial relationship between the first optical code and the boundary line in the images and generates a replenishment notification based on the spatial relationship. The replenishment notification indicates that the supply of the first type of goods needs to be replenished.
