Abstract: A power adaptor (20) is provided, comprising an input (22) for connection to an AC power supply, and a resonant circuit (34) coupled to the input (22) that provides an output suitable for driving a load (50). The capacitance and inductance of the resonant circuit (34) are selected to provide a pre-determined change in effective voltage, and a corresponding pre-determined change in effective current, between the input (22) and the output (24) of the power adaptor (20).

Abstract: A power adaptor (20) for a lighting unit (50) having a solid state light source (50a,50b,50c) is disclosed. The power adaptor (20) comprises an input (22) for connection to a mains power supply, a power transfer module (40a,40b,40c,140a) that is coupled to the input (22) and provides an output suitable for driving the solid state light source (50a,50b,50c), and a controller (30) that receives a voltage signal from the input (22) and is able to deliver a control signal to the power transfer module (40a,40b,40c,140a) for reducing the power drawn from the input (22). Abstract: The present invention relates to power adaptors for solid state lighting units and fixtures, of a kind including light emitting diodes, one of the adaptors comprising an input for receiving a phase controlled input power signal of varying on-duration and a controller coupled to the input and operable to produce at least one pulsed output driving signal in which both the duration and height of the pulses are varied according to the on-duration of the input power signal, to thereby control a light intensity output of the solid state lighting unit, such that the output is made to vary in a way that substantially matches the intensity response of the human eye. Abstract: The stator of an electric motor is provided by coils 22 disposed in an interrupted-annular array about a central space such that a path A through the array is provided whereby a selected one of a plurality of rotors 21 can be moved in the plane of and through the array into and out of said central space. In the preferred embodiment each rotor 21 is a gobo freely rotatable on a wheel which can be indexed to bring it into a light path, when it will be positioned to be rotated when the coils 22 are energised. The non-annular disposition of the coils 22 results in a motor of low torque but it is is adequate to rotate a gobo disc, which is simply a perforated sheet of metal. As applied to a disco lighting unit the motor of the invention provides a much cheaper and simpler drive arrangement for gobo discs.
