Abstract:
A composite marine structure comprises a marine substrate having adhered to at least a portion of its surface a layer of a water-permeable composite article comprising a non-woven fibrous web having entrapped therein active particulate to provide said marine substrate with protection against at least one of fouling and corrosion. Underwater surfaces such as ship hulls, buoys, docks, intake pipes, etc., can be protected against marine growth and corrosion by adhering thereto the composite sheet article of the invention.
Abstract:
An apparatus (100) utilizes a shift register (107) to select which of multiple synthesizers (115, 117) is to receive programming information. This allows multiple synthesizers (115, 117) to be programmed based on input from a single programing line group (102). The number of devices that can be programmed is limited by the number of parallel outputs available from the shift register (107).
Abstract:
A single-transistor frequency doubler uses an elliptical filter on the collector of the transistor to improve the bandwidth of the doubler. Bandwidths in excess of thirty five percent having relatively constant output power levels at frequencies over 200 MHz can be realized.
Abstract:
A communication system transitions from a high velocity mode of operation to a non-high velocity mode of operation based on a movement of a mobile station. When the communication system is in a high velocity mode of operation, the communication system promotes pilots from a High Velocity Neighbor Set of the mobile station or a controller. When the communication system is in a non-high velocity mode of operation, the communication system promotes pilots from a Neighbor Set of the mobile station or the controller. The communication system may further include a high velocity repeater that, when co-located with the mobile station, is capable of providing a communication link between the mobile station and a radio access network servicing the mobile station.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for reducing peak transmitter power includes providing a set of orthogonal communication codes for a telecommunications system that includes a set of active user codes and a set of inactive user codes (1404). A communication signal is generated from the set of active user codes (1406). The peak-to-average power ratio of the communication signal is reduced by performing a peak cancellation function on the communication signal that minimizes energy distribution at least one of the set of active user codes and the set of inactive user codes (1410).
Abstract:
A mechanically compacted composite article comprising a PTFE fibril matrix that entraps particles retains more of its longitudinal dimension, when subjected to mechanical and/or thermal stress, than a similar but non-mechanically compacted article. A method of making a particulate loaded PTFE fibril web is disclosed, the method including biaxial calendaring to form a sheet or sheet laminate, and machanically compacting the sheet or sheet laminate.
Abstract:
A microstrip capacitively-compensated directional coupler with improved directivity and decreased coupling length. The directional coupler of the invention includes a primary transmission line, having a first port and a second port and a secondary transmission line electromagnetically coupled to the first line. The secondary transmission line has a third port and a fourth port. The invention also calls for a first reactive coupling network disposed between the first port and the third port, and a second reactive coupling network disposed between the second port and the fourth port. Those reactive couplings improve the directivity of the coupler and foreshorten its coupling length. The invention also calls for a phase-shifting line for shifting the phase of the coupled signal. The phase-shifting line further foreshortens the required coupling length for the coupler.
Abstract:
A power amplifier has a non-linear low power pre-distortion amplifier (112) for transforming a carrier signal (111) to a pre-distorted signal (113) having a carrier component with out-of-phase non-linear distortions, and a non-linear power amplifier (114) having non-linear characteristics similar to a portion of the non-linear low power pre-distortion amplifier for generating from the pre-distorted signal a transmission signal (115) having an amplified carrier component with substantially diminished non-linear distortions.
Abstract:
In the present technique for transmitting and delaying radio frequency signal transmission, an RF delay filter (102) is provided with at least one high permittivity material coaxial delay element (104) with each having an input port (114) and an output port (116). Multiple coaxial delay elements are operably coupled by a quarter-wave microstrip transmission line (230) to offset any frequency mismatch at the band edges of the delay elements. A series of capacitors (126, 128) are also included at each port of the coaxial elements to compensate for any resultant parasitic inductance.
Abstract:
A method for removing dissolved species from a fluid while allowing suspended solid particles to remain within in the fluid, where the fluid includes dissolved species and suspended solid particles. The method includes providing a solid phase extraction article comprising a first end, a second end opposite the first end, an axis extending from the first end to the second end, and a porous, particle loaded, fibrous sheet material formed into a spiral configuration about the axis. The sheet material is wound around itself to provide multiple layers of sheet material, each layer of sheet material is spaced from each adjacent layer of sheet material, and the sheet material comprises a first working surface, a second, opposite working surface, and an inner portion comprising active particles between the first and second working surfaces. The method further includes passing a fluid including dissolved species and suspended solid particles through the solid phase extraction article from the first end to the second end in an axial direction. The suspended solid particles preferably do not substantially obstruct the first or second working surfaces so that the fluid including dissolved species can reach the inner portion of the sheet material. The fluid also preferably contacts both the first and second working surfaces of the sheet material, and active particles contained within the sheet material remove the dissolved species from the fluid as the fluid passes through the solid phase extraction article.
