Abstract: A method of detecting live speech comprises: receiving a signal containing speech; obtaining a first component of the received signal in a first frequency band, wherein the first frequency band includes audio frequencies; and obtaining a second component of the received signal in a second frequency band higher than the first frequency band. Then, modulation of the first component of the received signal is detected; modulation of the second component of the received signal is detected; and the modulation of the first component of the received signal and the modulation of the second component of the received signal are compared. It may then be determined that the speech may not be live speech, if the modulation of the first component of the received signal differs from the modulation of the second component of the received signal.

Abstract: This application relates to Class D amplifier circuits. A modulator controls a Class D output stage based on a modulator input signal (Dm) to generate an output signal (Vout) which is representative of an input signal (Din). An error block, which may comprise an ADC, generates an error signal (ε) from the output signal and the input signal. In various embodiments the extent to which the error signal (ε) contributes to the modulator input signal (Dm) is variable based on an indication of the amplitude of the input signal (Din). The error signal may be received at a first input of a signal selector block. The input signal may be received at a second input of the signal selector block. The signal selector block may be operable in first and second modes of operation, wherein in the first mode the modulator input signal is based at least in part on the error signal; and in the second mode the modulator input signal is based on the digital input signal and is independent of the error signal. The error signal can be used to reduce distortion at high signal levels but is not used at low signal levels and so the noise floor at low signal levels does not depend on the component of the error block.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a neuron for an artificial neural network. The neuron comprises a dot product engine operative to: receive a set of weights; receive a set of data inputs based on a set of input data signals; and calculate the dot product of the set of data inputs and the set of weights to generate a dot product engine output. The neuron further comprises an activation function module arranged to apply an activation function to a signal indicative of the dot product engine output to generate a neuron output; and gain control circuitry. The gain control circuitry is operative to control: an input gain applied to the input data signals to generate the set of data inputs; and an output gain applied to the dot product engine output or by the activation function module. The output gain is selected to compensate for the applied input gain.

Abstract: A method for authenticating a user of an electronic device is disclosed. Abstract: This application describes methods and apparatus for speaker recognition. An apparatus according to an embodiment has an analyzer for analyzing each frame of a sequence of frames of audio data which correspond to speech sounds uttered by a user to determine at least one characteristic of the speech sound of that frame. An assessment module determines, for each frame of audio data, a contribution indicator of the extent to which that frame of audio data should be used for speaker recognition processing based on the determined characteristic of the speech sound. Said contribution indicator comprises a weighting to be applied to each frame in the speaker recognition processing. In this way frames which correspond to speech sounds that are of most use for speaker discrimination may be emphasized and/or frames which correspond to speech sounds that are of least use for speaker discrimination may be de-emphasized.

Abstract: This application relates to audio driving circuitry (100), and in particular to audio driving circuitry for outputting first and second audio driving signals for driving a stereo audio load (106), which may be a stereo audio load of an accessory apparatus (102) removably coupled to the audio driving circuitry in use. A load monitor (111) is provided for monitoring to monitor, from a monitoring node (112), an indication of a common mode return current passing through a common return path, together with an indication of a common mode component of the first and second audio driving signals and to determine an impedance characteristic of the stereo audio load. The load monitor (111) can provide dynamic monitoring of any significant change in load impedance. In some embodiments the load monitor (111) comprises an adaptive filter (301) which adapts a parameter of the filter which is related to the load impedance so as to determine the indication of load impedance.
