Devices and methods provide accurate targeting, placement, and/or stabilization of an electrode or other instrument(s) into the brain or other body organ, such as to treat severe tremor or other neurological disorders. Targeting is performed using any form of image-guidance, including real-time MRI, CT, or frameless surgical navigation systems.

There is disclosed method and apparatus for retaining a reservoir for a therapeutic agent between the scalp and cranium of a subject, including providing a deformable pouch or rigid cylinder for dispensing the therapeutic agent from the reservoir to a location in the body of the subject. In one embodiment, a pump is used to pump the agent from the reservoir to the location in the subject's body. In another example embodiment, there is provided method and apparatus for forming at least one cavity in the cranium of the subject, and placing at least a portion of the pump in the cavity. Power is applied to the pump in a variety of ways.
Abstract:
A guide wire holding apparatus includes a tray, one or more raised corrugated areas, a fluid source, a syringe, a valve, a drainage system, and one or more coupling devices. Each of the one or more raised corrugated areas is located on the inner surface of the tray and includes one or more slots. A reservoir is formed by the inner surface of the tray and the tray end caps. A flow of fluid provided by the fluid source or the syringe and controlled by the valve partially fills the reservoir. The height of the fluid in the reservoir is partially controlled by the location of the cap hole. Preferably, the cap hole is located at a height that causes the guide wire, which is shown resting in a slot formed in the one or more raised corrugated areas, to be slightly submerged when fluid is flowing from the fluid source or syringe to the drainage system.

A briefcase for a computer includes a first compartment for carrying the computer and peripherals. The first compartment includes a cover which has a hinge mechanism intermediate said cover. The computer briefcase also includes a second compartment attached to the first compartment. The first compartment is accessible from the exterior of the computer briefcase. In other words, the access can be gained to the computer and its peripherals by leaving the computer within the case and opening a cover. The cover is hinged so that the top of the first compartment does not extend above the top of the opened computer. The briefcase also includes a sliding drawer that advances the computer toward the user without having to move the briefcase itself, such that the computer lid may be opened on an airplane. The briefcase also includes a holding mechanism for holding the computer within the first compartment. The computer briefcase can also be part of a luggage system. The bag for holding a computer includes a first portion of an attachment mechanism attached to the exterior of the bag for holding a computer. The first portion of the attachment mechanism can be attached to another briefcase or to a hanging bag.

There is described method and apparatus for supporting a patient's body in a MR scanner, including supporting it to rotate about its longitudinal axis and cant about a point on the longitudinal axis. Also provided are method and apparatus for supporting a patient's head and neck and using a surgical head-holder. Yet another embodiment of the invention provides method and apparatus for attaching first and second stirrups to a member supporting the patient. According to yet another embodiment, the invention provides for keeping two or more different members for supporting a patient's body during a medical procedure conducted in conjunction with an MR scanner, wherein each member is adapted to be detachably inserted into a bore of the MR scanner, and wherein each member provides for a different patient support functionality, selecting one of the different members for use in a medical procedure, positioning a patient's body on the selected member, and engaging the member with the MR scanner such that the member is disposed at least in part in a bore of the scanner.
