    Abstract: A lap robe for wheel chair or sitting patients is disclosed as including a waist section having detachable fastener elements attached thereto, and a lower body and leg wrapping section which is attached to the waist section. The lower body and leg wrapping section includes upper and lower portions, with the upper portion extending laterally outwardly from the lower portion, an opposite sides of the lower body and leg wrapping section. This enables the lap robe to be easily and conveniently placed about a patient, while the upper portion thereof generally conforms to the patient's lower body and thighs, when both in a standing and sitting position. The lower portion of the lower body and leg wrapping section covers the lower leg areas of the patient. The lap robe is preferably made from a synthetic fiber healthcare fabric that has a repeating pattern of synthetic fiber filaments arranged in an open work construction to provide both a thermal barrier and an ornamental appearance in a light-weight fabric construction.

    Abstract: A synthetic fiber healthcare fabric for use in blankets and the like includes a repeating pattern of synthetic fiber filaments arranged in an open work construction. The fabric includes laterally spaced groups of closely positioned synthetic fiber filaments which are arranged in a plurality of adjacent rows. The laterally spaced groups of closely positioned synthetic fiber filaments are laterally offset from one another in adjacent rows, but are longitudinally aligned with one another in alternating rows. Generally elongated openings are formed between adjacent pairs of laterally spaced groups of closely positioned synthetic fiber filaments and adjacent pairs of longitudinally aligned groups of closely positioned synthetic fiber filaments, thereby providing a light-weight fabric with spaced air-flow channels or openings. The synthetic fiber filaments also have a napped or brushed finish throughout the fabric on at least one side thereof in order to provide a series of randomly extending short fiber filaments projecting outwardly from the synthetic fiber filaments to provide an effective thermal barrier construction which also has a soft fabric feel.

    Abstract: An absorptive device for incontinent patients is disclosed as including a liquid permeable absorptive member having an outer facing layer of synthetic fabric and an inner backing layer of fabric having a blend of thermal plastic and cellulosic fibers, the synthetic outer facing layer being ultrasonically welded to the thermal plastic fibers of the blended material inner backing layer, and a liquid impervious barrier member underlying the liquid permeable absorptive member to restrict the flow of liquid therethrough. The ultrasonic welding is performed at intermittent locations in a predetermined configuration representing a quilt pattern. A liquid impervious side binding member overlaps and binds the free end and immediately adjacent surfaces of the absorptive and barrier members to inhibit side leakage. The liquid impervious barrier member includes a thermal plastic film of liquid impervious material sandwiched between two fabrics which are then bonded to one another.

    Abstract: A collapsible cane having a series of interfitting smaller and larger telescoping sections which are interlocked against collapse, when extended, is disclosed.
