Abstract:
Monomers, polymers and copolymers are provided that incorporate at least one naturally occurring phenolic compound, such as a plant phenol, as well as methods for producing the monomers and polymers. Plant phenols possessing a reactive group in addition to the phenolic group, such as a double bond, aldehyde, ester, alcohol or carboxylic acid, are particularly useful. Plant phenols can be isolated from a plant material, or chemically or enzymatically synthesized.
Abstract:
Plant oil-based compounds are provided which possess both low viscosity and high reactive functionality. These compounds are useful in coating and composite applications, as well as related methods. Exemplary compounds can be produced by transesterification of a plant oil triglyceride with a nucleophile reactant, such as a vinyl-functional alcohol, to yield reactive fatty acid-containing monomers.

Abstract:
Polymers and copolymers are formed from vinylether monomers having fatty acid ester pendent groups derived from plant oils, such as soybean oil.
Abstract:
Polyamide copolymers, and methods of making and using polyamide copolymers, having 2,5-furan dicarboxamide units are disclosed herein. Such polymers can be useful for engineering thermoplastics having advantageous physical and/or chemical properties.
Abstract:
Polysiloxane-based materials, which include metal species, are provided. The polysiloxane-based compositions and materials generally include (i) amino-functional polysiloxane material and (ii) a plurality of metal species distributed within the polymeric material. Polymer based compositions in which the amino-functional polysiloxane material includes quaternary ammonium groups, e.g., tetraalkyl ammonium groups, are examples of suitable materials which may be used to form the present compositions. The metal species, which may be in an oxidized and/or neutral state, may be bonded, coordinated, chelated, suspended, and/or dispersed within the polymeric material.
Abstract:
A family of polyethylenimine biocides of formula (I): wherein R1 is hydrogen, a branched ethylenimine, a tethered antimicrobial moiety, or a branched ethylenimine having a tethered antimicrobial moiety is described herein. The polyethylenimine biocides may be used in a variety of consumer products, coatings, coating compositions, and medical devices to prevent growth of microorganisms.
Abstract:
Functionalized cross-linked polysiloxanes, such as quaternary ammonium terminated cross-linked polyalkylsiloxanes are described herein. The functionalized cross-linked polysiloxanes may be used in an antifouling composition to prevent biological fouling in aqueous and/or marine environments.
