Abstract: A method and a controller for controlling a transmitting node in a wireless telecommunications network, the wireless telecommunications network including a receiving node, wherein the transmitting node includes a plurality of antenna ports, the method including determining a count of antenna ports, being one or more of the transmitting node's plurality of antenna ports, to use in communications with the receiving node based on: a balance between a first performance metric related to a coherence interval and having a positive relationship with the count of antenna ports and a second performance metric related to the coherence interval and having a negative relationship with the count of antenna ports, and/or a measure of the coherence interval in communications with the receiving node; and causing the transmitting node to use the count of antenna ports in communications with the receiving node.

Abstract: This disclosure provides a method of configuring a wireless telecommunications network, the wireless telecommunications network including a first wireless transmitter. The method can include obtaining data indicating an amount of data transmitted by the first wireless transmitter in each Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) of a plurality of MCS; estimating a received signal strength change for the first wireless transmitter when using a first candidate configuration; estimating a first spectral efficiency for the first candidate configuration based on the amount of data transmitted by the first wireless transmitter in each MCS of the plurality of MCS and the received signal strength change for the first wireless transmitter when using the first candidate configuration; comparing the estimated first spectral efficiency for the first candidate configuration to a reference spectral efficiency; and causing a reconfiguration of the wireless telecommunications network based on the comparison.

Abstract: This disclosure provides a base station for a cellular network, and a method of operating the base station in the cellular network, the cellular network also including a second base station, wherein the first and second base stations include first and second oscillators providing a first and second periodic timing pulse respectively, the method including determining a relative timing offset between a first instance of the first periodic timing pulse for transmission of a frame from the first base station and a first instance of the second periodic timing pulse for transmission of a frame from the second base station; determining that the relative timing offset is changeable; and adjusting the first periodic timing pulse to maintain the relative timing offset by varying a first period between instances of the first periodic timing pulse such that the rate of change of the relative timing offset over time is reduced.

Abstract: Examples describe a method of operating a distribution point unit (DPU) having a wireless backhaul connection, such as a 4G or 5G connection. The distribution point unit is reverse powered electrically by connected subscriber lines. The radio configuration (number of antennas, frequencies, etc) used by the wireless backhaul connection is switched according to the power available from the subscriber lines. Changes to the available power can trigger a switch to a new radio configuration. Higher capacities (data rates) can be achieved with higher power radio configurations, which can be switched over to if the available power is sufficient. Similarly, when the available power drops, a switch can be made to an appropriate lower powered radio configuration.

Abstract: A method of configuring a network slice subnet instance on a radio access node in a wireless telecommunications network. Transceiver data identifying one or more properties of the radio access node is received. The transceiver data is processed to determine capabilities of the radio access node, wherein the capabilities indicate, for a plurality of different counts of network slice subnet instances implementable on the radio access node, a set of operating values for one or more operating parameters. Based on the determined capabilities, a count of network slice subnet instances to implement on the radio access node and the operating values for one or more operating parameters for each network slice subnet instance are selected. One or more network slice subnet instances on the radio access node are configured based on the selection. This application also relates to a computer program and a network node.

Abstract: An autonomous vehicle having wireless access communications access point equipment is arranged to set up a base station in a coverage “hole” by scanning to detect transmissions from another wireless communications access point, and determines a direction in which quality of coverage from the other wireless communications access point decreases, and directs the autonomous vehicle to move in the direction of decreasing coverage until it reaches a limit of coverage, at which point it hands over to another base station or, if no further base station is available, sets up as a wireless communications point connecting through the last base station to a backhaul connection.
