Abstract: A coated abrasive article comprises a backing having first and second opposed major surfaces, a make layer disposed on at least a portion of the first major surface and bonding abrasive particles to the backing, a size layer overlaid on at least a portion of the make layer and the abrasive particles, and a supersize layer disposed on the size layer. The supersize layer comprises an at least partially cured water-based epoxy resin and an organic polymeric rheology modifier, and wherein the amount of the at least partially cured epoxy resin comprises from 75 to 99.99 weight percent of the combined weight of the at least partially cured epoxy resin and the organic polymeric rheology modifier. A method of making the coated abrasive article is also disclosed.

Abstract: A coated abrasive disc includes a disc backing and an abrasive layer disposed thereon. The abrasive layer comprises abrasive elements secured to a major surface of the disc backing by at least one binder material. The abrasive elements are disposed at contiguous intersections of horizontal and vertical lines of a rectangular grid pattern. Each abrasive element has two triangular abrasive platelets, each having respective top and bottom surfaces connected to each other, and separated by, three sidewalls. On a respective basis, one sidewall of the triangular abrasive platelets is disposed facing and proximate to the disc backing. A first portion of the abrasive elements is arranged in alternating first rows wherein the triangular abrasive platelets are disposed lengthwise aligned with the vertical lines. A second portion of the abrasive elements is arranged in alternating second rows wherein the triangular abrasive platelets are disposed lengthwise aligned with the horizontal lines. The first and second rows repeatedly alternate along the vertical lines. Methods of making and using the coated abrasive disc are also disclosed.

Abstract: A repositionable abrasive disc mounting assembly comprises a backup pad and a clamp assembly. The backup pad has a rotational axis of use and a major surface with projections extending outwardly therefrom. The backup pad further comprises an inwardly facing centrally disposed first fastening member, and also an outwardly facing centrally disposed second fastening member. The clamp assembly comprises inner and outer clamp members for securing an abrasive disc. The inner clamp member comprises an inwardly facing centrally disposed third fastening member adapted to repositionably engage the second fastening member in a discrete number of rotational orientations. The inner clamp member further comprises an outwardly facing centrally disposed fourth fastening member. The outer clamp member comprises an inwardly facing centrally disposed fifth fastening member adapted to securely engage the fourth fastening member. A method of abrading a workpiece using the repositionable abrasive disc is also disclosed.

The binder material comprises an at least partially cured resole phenolic resin and an organic polymeric rheology modifier. The amount of the at least partially cured resole phenolic resin comprises from 75 to 99.99 weight percent of the combined weight of the at least partially cured resole phenolic resin and the organic polymeric rheology modifier. Methods of making the abrasive article are also disclosed.

Abstract: Abrasive articles and associated methods are shown that include one or more camouflaging layers that can be applied to a portion of the abrasive article. The one or more camouflaging layers can be applied over the size coat layer as a discontinuous colored layer covering a portion of the size coat layer. In an example, the camouflaging layer can be applied as a repeating pattern of one or more colors on the abrasive article. In an example, the camouflaging layer can be applied randomly to the abrasive article. The discontinuous layer can have a color markedly different than a color of the size coat layer and can be used to mask or minimize an appearance of particle imperfections or voids on the abrasive article. The discontinuous layer can be applicable to coated and non-woven abrasive articles in the form of sheets, discs, belts, pads, or rolls.

Abstract: Various embodiments disclosed relate to a shaped abrasive particle. The shaped abrasive particle includes at least four major faces and at least six edges joining the four major faces. One of the at least four major faces is a first rake face, a second of the at least four major faces is a second rake face. The first and second rake faces are predominantly joined along only one common edge. A dihedral angle between the first rake face and the second rake face is in a range of from about 71 degrees to about 170 degrees.
