Abstract: There are provided an information recording medium, an information processing apparatus, an information processing method, and a computer program, which can realize users' convenience for using content in accordance with a license and copyright protection. An information recording medium stores an encrypted content file including encrypted content, usage right information of the encrypted content, and encryption key information necessary for a decrypting process for the encrypted content. Thus, a user can acquire a license (usage right information) and key information necessary for decryption of the content, together with the content, from the information recording medium, without acquiring the license (usage rights) by connection to a license provider. Therefore, it is no longer necessary to perform a process of acquiring the license (usage rights) from the license provider when the content is to be used, whereby user convenience is improved, and license-based content copyright management can also be ensured.

Abstract: To provide an apparatus and method for realizing an improved content preview process in a content using mechanism based on content usage-right information. A client obtains default usage-right information (Default Usage Right) when it is registered to a license server, and determines, based on the default usage-right information, whether or not the content can be played back in a content preview process without purchasing the content. Abstract: To provide an information recording medium and an information processing apparatus and method in which the content usage by ensuring copyright protection can be implemented both in CD players and information processing apparatuses, for example, PCs. A license providing condition for a client can be dynamically set based on the content usage status of the client. For example, for clients having a large number of content usages, the license price is decreased, or the license can be provided free. Also, an information processing system and method using an encryption key block manages a partial tree of a key tree (sub-tree), generates a sub-enabling key block based only on a key set corresponding to nodes or leaves included in the sub-tree, and generates an enabling key block decodable only by selected entities by using the sub-enabling key block. Thus, it is possible to generate and distribute an enabling key block corresponding to data processing ability of a device and to manage devices by dividing a hierarchical key tree structure.
