Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for testing hearing in infants based on pupil dilation response. It does not require sedation or depend on subjective judgments of human testers. Pupil dilation response to sound is measured by presenting on a display a visually engaging video containing periodic changes; presenting sounds synchronized with the periodic changes of the video; recording images from a camera directed in front of the display, where the camera is sensitive to infrared wavelengths; processing the images to measure pupil sizes; and processing the measured pupil sizes to determine, statistically, the presence of a pupil dilation response to the sounds.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are microinjection chips, devices, and systems for injection of unicellular or multicellular organisms. The microinjection chip and device disclosed herein include the microfluidic features, inlet port, pre-injection reservoir, injection channel and post injection channel in fluid communication with each other. The inlet port is adapted to sequentially move individual organisms into the injection channel, which is adapted to immobilize the individual organism in fluid. The injection channel features a side wall adapted to receive a microinjection pipette without a microinjection port and to reseal when the microinjection pipette is removed.

Abstract: Swept polarization optical beams are directed to a sample to produce fluorescence. typical as a plurality of single photon detection events. Based on frequencies associated with the polarization sweeps, orientation of a sample can be determined. Using polarization sweeps at first and second frequencies and wavelength, donor fluorophore orientation can be established based on the first frequency and wavelength and acceptor orientation can be established based on a sum or difference of the first and second frequencies and the second wavelength.

Abstract: Methods and systems for fabricating 3D electronic devices, such as multielectrode arrays, including metalized, 3D printed structures using integrated 3D printing and photolithography techniques are disclosed. As one embodiment, a multielectrode array comprises a flexible substrate, a plurality of photopatterned electrical traces spaced apart and insulated from one another on the substrate, and a plurality of 3D printed electrodes. Each 3D printed electrode comprises a photopolymer coated in metal and has a 3D structure that extends outward from the substrate, and each 3D printed electrode is electrically connected to a corresponding electrical trace of the plurality of photopatterned electrical traces.

Abstract: Compositions and methods for assessing protein function are provided. A modified SpyCatcher protein that can include a tag is provided. Modified SpyCatcher proteins linked to a protein of interest, such as a nuclease are also provided. The methods include contacting a SpyCatcher protein and a SpyTagged protein to form a complex that may further include a protein of interest, one or more nucleic acids, and/or a nuclease. The methods can be used to purify a protein of interest or identify or target a protein binding site in a nucleic acid.

Abstract: Provided herein are genetically modified cells and methods of their production, wherein such methods include introducing a nucleic acid molecule including a plurality of index sequences into a cell comprising a synthetic landing pad, wherein each of the plurality of index sequences includes a first portion of a sequence and the synthetic landing pad includes a second portion of the sequence. The method further includes generating a plurality of cells that include the synthetic landing pad and the nucleic acid molecule including the plurality of index sequences and integrating one of the plurality of index sequences into the synthetic landing pad in each of the cells, thereby linking the first and second portions of the sequence. The linked first and second portions of the sequence result in a functional gene and cells including the integrated index sequence are selected based on presence or activity of the functional gene.

Abstract: Spin qubits are situated in mechanical resonators that are acoustically coupled with acoustic waveguides. The acoustic waveguides provide frequency dependent phonon propagation selected so that mechanical resonators adjacent to a selected mechanical resonator are acoustically coupled to the selected mechanical resonator in different acoustic frequency ranges. This configure permits directional transfer of quantum states between spins in spin-mechanical resonator and provides a scalable platform for spin-based quantum computing.
