Abstract:
A device for use in studies involving multiple subjects to record observation data in an output file is provided. The invention may be embodied in a tablet type computer having a touchscreen or another form of electronic device having user input capability. The device displays a set of subject buttons for selecting a subject for which observation data will be recorded, a corresponding set of start time buttons to track and display the elapsed time for the corresponding subject, and a set of observation buttons corresponding to pre-defined observation data established by the user. Additional features may include, among other features, a reminder function for setting user-defined alarms, a time-stamped note function, and an initiation function for items such as time synchronization, describing subjects, and describing environmental or exposure details for the study to be performed.
Abstract:
A pseudo-active chemical imaging sensor including irradiative transient heating, temperature nonequilibrium thermal luminescence spectroscopy, differential hyperspectral imaging, and artificial neural network technologies integrated together. The sensor may be applied to the terrestrial chemical contamination problem, where the interstitial contaminant compounds of detection interest (analytes) comprise liquid chemical warfare agents, their various derivative condensed phase compounds, and other material of a life-threatening nature. The sensor measures and processes a dynamic pattern of absorptive-emissive middle infrared molecular signature spectra of subject analytes to perform its chemical imaging and standoff detection functions successfully.
Abstract:
A multivariate digital camera device and method for generating pictures of datasets comprised of points in hyperspace is provided. The invention may be embodied in an input device, a computer processor, and an output device. The input device may be a keyboard, a laboratory instrument such as a mass spectrometer, a reader of computer readable medium, or a network interface device. The output device may be a monitor used in conjunction with either a 2D or 3D printer or both. The computer processor receives data from the input device and performs a series of steps to create a 2D or 3D image of the hyperspace object. The resulting image is then produced in a non-transitory medium by at least one of the output devices. The processor steps include the use of a maximum distance method in which distances and angles information from the points in the hyperspace dataset are preserved to produce a more picture-like quality.
Abstract:
A mount for a telemetry receiver having a data connector and used in conjunction with a cage for housing animals and having at least one wall. The mount includes a base plate and a pair of rails which are attached to the base plate. These rails are dimensioned to slidably receive opposed sides of the telemetry receiver. The base plate includes at least one opening aligned with the telemetry receiver data connector when the telemetry receiver is inserted between the rails. The opening is dimensioned to receive a data cable therethrough. A fastener then secures the base plate to the inside of the wall of the cage.
Abstract:
The invention relates to methods and products enabling decontamination of chemical warfare agents and/or toxic industrial chemicals. More particularly, the invention pertains to improvements of surface decontamination processes using novel sorbents such as nanotubular titania.
Abstract:
The present invention can be characterized as a trainer kit for a Colorimetric Reconnaissance Explosive Squad Screening (“CRESS”) kit, which contains a control compound and a set of simulated explosive compositions (“SEC”). The control compound contains no explosive precursor, while each SEC is a combination of one or more explosive precursors that is to be detected by CRESS, and at least one non-explosive additive that reduces the kinetics of the explosive precursor. The SEC retains the colorimetric characteristics of the explosive precursor, but is stable in heat and non-hazardous.
Abstract:
A system for vertically lifting and lowering a container relative to a supporting surface. The system includes at least two lift mechanisms wherein each mechanism includes a frame attached to the container. An elongated cylinder and piston is associated with each frame so that its axis is substantially vertical. A control circuit selectively connects a power source to each cylinder and piston to move the cylinder and piston between a retracted position in which the piston is spaced upwardly from the supporting surface and an extended position in which a foot on the piston engages the supporting surface and lifts the container upwardly from the supporting surface.
Abstract:
A system and method of filtering comprising adsorbing a toxic chemical using a metal-organic framework (MOF) compound that has been post-treated with fluorocarbons using plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD). The toxic chemical may comprise any of ammonia and cyanogen chloride. Furthermore, the toxic chemical may comprise any of an acidic/acid-forming gas, basic/base-forming gas, oxidizer, reducer, and organic gas/vapor. The toxic chemical is physically adsorbed by the MOF compound. Moreover, the toxic chemical interacts with unsaturated metal sites within the MOF. Additionally, the MOF compound may comprise any of Cu-BTC, MOF-177, and an isoreticular metal-organic framework (IRMOF) compound. The MOF compound may comprise a metal-carboxylate bond. Additionally, the MOF compound may be unstable in the presence of moisture.
Abstract:
An external filter assembly adapted for modifying a suction cleaning device to sample relatively small particles from various surfaces and/or the ambient air, includes a housing having a first open end, a second open end and a throughbore between the first and second open ends, a filter adapted for capturing particles with particle sizes greater than 0.1 micrometer, the filter being mounted on and enclosing the first open end, and means for securely retaining the second open end of the housing on an exhaust port of the suction cleaning device in communication with the housing throughbore.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed toward a colorimetric detection kit comprising a unit containing chemical reagents and a sample collector for collecting a sample analyte from a surface and a separate unit for visualizing a possible reaction of the chemical reagent and sample, the unit holding the chemical reagents and sample collector being placeable on the visualization unit, whereby when the chemical reagents are released, they are directed onto the sample collector for reaction and the reacted reagents absorbed on a visualization media, such that the presence of a specified analyte in the sample results in a color change in the visualization media.
