    摘要: A chemically and thermally stable chromate free aqueous liquid treatment for metals, especially aluminum, that imparts corrosion resistance as good as that from conventional chromate containing treatments, contains water and a fluoroacid selected from the group consisting of H2TiF6, H2 ZrF6, H2HfF6, H2SiF6, H2GeF6, H2SnF6, HBF4, and mixtures thereof; a water soluble organic carboxylic acid that contains at least two hydroxyl groups, exclusive of the hydroxyl groups that are part of any carboxyl groups, per carboxyl group in each acid molecule, the water soluble salts of such acids, and mixtures thereof; a source of phosphate ions; and an organic component selected from the group consisting of tannins and amino-phenolic polymers.

    摘要: More nearly consistent quality of the coatings formed by contacting a zinciferous surface with an aqueous liquid treatment composition comprising water, transition metal cations, and fluorometallate anions, and, optionally, acidity adjustment agents can be achieved by (I) measuring the pH value of and the concentrations of transition metal cations and of fluorometallate anions in the treatment composition as it is used, (II) removing a specified fraction of the treatment composition from contact with the remainder of the treatment composition, and (III) adding one or more suitable replenisher compositions to the treatment composition, in order to maintain the measured pH and concentration values within specified ranges.

    摘要: A multipurpose treatment composition for metal surfaces comprises phosphate ions, fluorometallate ions, water soluble polymers containing substituted aminomethylene moieties bonded to benzene rings which also have an oxygen atom bonded to another carbon atom in the same ring, and a distinct kind of film-forming polymer. The compositions are free from chromium and other heavy metals that cause serious pollution problems in some prior art treatment compositions. Coating layers formed in a process according to the invention are effective for at least three different purposes: increasing adhesion of and corrosion protection from subsequently applied paints or other protective coatings with a largely organic matrix; without any subsequently applied protective coating, providing at least temporary protection against staining and development of white rust on zinc or zinc alloy surfaces treated in a process according to the invention, and providing sufficient lubricity to permit roll forming of sheet metals treated in a process according to the invention without the need for additional liquid lubricants such as oil.

    摘要: Excellent adhesion to subsequently applied paint or elastomer is obtained by coating a metal substrate with a phosphate conversion coating by contact with a liquid phosphating solution that contains zinc cations, phosphate anions, and at least one adhesion promoter selected from (i) film-forming organic substances, (ii) polymers of vinyl phenols modified by substitution of substituted aminomethyl moieties on their aromatic rings, (iii) inorganic oxides of one of the elements silicon, aluminum, titanium, and zirconium. Preferably, the phosphating solution also contains manganese and nickel cations and either iron cations or hydroxylamine. If adhesion to paint is desired, the adhesion promoter preferably is an acrylic film-forming substance, while if adhesion to elastomers is desired, the adhesion promoter preferably is a polymer of vinyl phenol and the phosphating solution preferably also contains calcium cations.

Preferably, the composition also comprises trivalent chromium compound and the respective weight ratios of hexavalent chromium, trivalent chromium, compound selected from the group consisting of silica and silicates and mixtures thereof, and phosphate to 1.0 total chromium by weight are from about 0.6 to 1.0; from 0.0 to about 0.4; from about 0.5 to about 5.0; and from about 0.1 to about 5.0, respectively. A metal surface can be coated with the aqueous metal treatment composition and then cured to provide a coated metal product having good corrosion resistance, paint adhesion characteristics and formability.
