    摘要: Disclosed is an apparatus for oxygenating and controlling the temperature of blood in an extracorporeal circuit. The apparatus has an inlet and an outlet that is located radially outward from the inlet in order to define a flowpath through the apparatus. The apparatus comprises: a core that is substantially centrally located in the apparatus and to which blood from a patient can be supplied through the inlet; a heat exchanger comprising a plurality of heat transfer elements that are arranged around the core and between which blood from the core can move radially outward; and an oxygenator comprising a plurality of gas exchange elements that are arranged around the heat exchanger and between which blood from the heat exchanger can move radially outward before exiting the apparatus through the outlet.

    摘要: Embodiments of the invention provide an ablation apparatus for ablating target tissue adjacent pulmonary veins of a patient. The ablation apparatus can include a tube capable of being advanced around the pulmonary veins to form a loop. The tube can receive or include electrodes to ablate target tissue. Some embodiments provide a loop ablation device, which may include a cannula and two or more electrode rods carrying two or more bipolar electrodes. The electrode rods can be advanced through the distal ends toward the proximal ends of the loop and toward the target tissue. The bipolar electrodes can receive energy to ablate the target tissue. The bipolar electrodes may be surrounded by the liquid within the cannula while ablating the target tissue. The loop ablation device can further include a rotating grasping mechanism coupled to the electrode rods.

    摘要: An autoinflating catheter and balloon assembly having an autoregulating structure to prevent overinflation of the balloon as a result of variable fluid flow rates through the catheter lumen. A tight-fitting elastomeric balloon is provided on the distal end of the catheter body, and the assembly is constructed so that at least a portion of the fluid flow through the lumen is directed to the balloon to inflate it. As the balloon is inflated, more and more of the fluid flow through the catheter is discharged from the catheter, thereby preventing overinflation of the balloon.

    摘要: An improved retrograde coronary sinus perfusion catheter includes a flexible, tubular catheter body and an inflatable balloon. The catheter body has proximal and distal ends and an interior lumen. The inflatable balloon is located adjacent the distal end of the catheter body and has proximal and distal edges. The improvement includes an echogenicity enhancement embedded within the catheter body. The echogenicity enhancement is adapted to reflect ultrasonic waves at a characteristic different from the catheter body.

    摘要: There is disclosed an apparatus for the sanitary removal of an indwelling tube from an implantation site in a patient, comprising a tube adapter that is connectable to the indwelling tube. An impervious sleeve is fan-folded into a hub which extends around the tube adapter. In assembly the folded sleeve is retained by a shrink-wrapped plastic film. The sleeve can be extended for receiving the indwelling tube therethrough and to encompass the implantation site. The indwelling tube and the implantation site are isolated from the environment when the distal open end of the sleeve is extended and applied about the implantation site and the indwelling tube is withdrawn into the sleeve. A drawstring is provided for closing the distal end of the sleeve after the tube has been withdrawn. Embodiments are shown for removing a plurality of indwelling tubes in one operation, and for maintaining the lumen of the indwelling tube under suction or in connection with a drain during the removal operation.

    摘要: An arterial line blood filter for use in extracorporeal blood circuits during heart bypass surgery has, among other components, a housing with a cap portion, a base portion, and a generally cylindrical wall portion. The blood filter has a filter element disposed within the housing. An inlet is positioned at an upward angle with respect to the housing and includes an opening in the generally cylindrical wall portion in fluid communication with the inlet chamber. In some embodiments the position of the inlet limits the pressure drop and prime volume of the filter. According to one embodiment, the cap portion has an upwardly sloping inner surface and there is a vent in the cap portion. The inner surface of the cap portion can have a projection proximate the vent configured to limit immobilization of gaseous microemboli within the inlet chamber.
