    摘要: An oil separator for reducing oil carryover from the vent port of the crankcase of an internal combustion engine, such as a diesel engine is provided. The separator includes a cylindrical housing filled with a filtration material and having both an inlet and an outlet in its upper portion and a downwardly disposed, frustro-conical wall that defines an annular chamber between its outer surface and the inner walls of the housing. The annular chamber defines a helical flow path through the filtration material in the housing for a stream of oil-laden air admitted through the inlet of the housing. Oil droplets are removed from the stream of air as it moves through the helical path both by impingement against the filtration material, and the by centrifugal impingement against the inner walls of the housing. At the end of the helical path, the stream of air is directed along a hairpin turn through an opening in the frustro-conical wall and from thence into a double-back path before exiting the housing, thereby removing still more entrained oil droplets. The resulting filtered stream of air may be directed into the engine draft tube or the air filter by means of a pipe. The separator also includes an oil drain conduit for conducting liquid oil collected by the filtration material into the oil pan of the engine at a level lower than the operating level of the oil within the pan for uninhibited drainage.

    摘要: A cover and support plate arrangement for a wall mounted device, such as a wall switch, display, dimmer, etc., for mounting to a wall box embedded in the wall and having overall surface dimensions greater than that of the wall box. The cover plate is juxtaposed over the front surface of the support plate and is spaced therefrom to provide an air gap between the cover plate and the support plate creating a chimney through which air currents may flow. The device includes an electric circuit having a heat generating device, such as a triac, which is thermally connected to the support plate and in series electrically with a controlled load. The cover plate casts a shadow along vertical sides of the support plate such that the vertical sides of the support plate are visible only when viewed at extreme angles with respect to an imaginary line perpendicular to the plane of the support plate or the wall in which the device is mounted. The cover plate appears to float from the wall while proper thermal dissipation is achieved through the chimney between the cover and support plate. Means are disclosed for constructing a low profile, conventionally sized family of wall mounted dimmer switches that meet Underwriters Laboratories operating temperature standards.

    摘要: A conduit inspection sled comprises: a cage including longitudinally spaced adjustable collars for removably clamping a camera therein and a plurality of peripherally spaced and outwardly extending, elongated upper and lower struts connecting the collars on the upper and lower sides thereof; supports including elongated runners arranged on the lower side of the cage and elongated skids mounted on the upper struts; cables connected to opposite ends of the sled for transporting the same forwardly and rearwardly along the conduit; fore and aft links pivotally connecting the front and rear ends respectively of each lower strut and runner for relative movement toward and away from each other into retracted and extended sled positions respectively; inclined tension springs connecting the cage with the runners beyond the front end of the cage, and normally biasing the cage and runners into an extended sled position, wherein the runners slidably contact the inner periphery of the conduit and thereby normally center the camera substantially along the central longitudinal axis of the conduit; the springs also permitting such relative movement into a retracted sled position wherein the sled is allowed to clear an obstacle within the conduit; an adjustable stop on each runner and removably engageable with a stop retainer on each lower strut for limiting such relative movement to more than one extended sled position depending upon the interior size of the conduit; and an adjustable latch on each strut for ensuring positive engagement with a keeper on the trailing edge of each aft link for locking the sled in a fully retracted position obtained by pulling the rear cable and tensioning the front cable to collapse the sled into such fully retracted position, and thereby facilitate retrieval by reverse transport past an obstacle already cleared during forward transport.

    摘要: A ceramic fiber composite structure particularly suitable for use as a hot gas cleanup ceramic fiber composite filter and method of making same from ceramic composite material has a structure which provides for increased strength and toughness in high temperature environments. The ceramic fiber composite structure or filter is made by a process in which a continuous ceramic fiber is intimately surrounded by discontinuous chopped ceramic fibers during manufacture to produce a ceramic fiber composite preform which is then bonded using various ceramic binders. The ceramic fiber composite preform is then fired to create a bond phase at the fiber contact points. Parameters such as fiber tension, spacing, and the relative proportions of the continuous ceramic fiber and chopped ceramic fibers can be varied as the continuous ceramic fiber and chopped ceramic fiber are simultaneously formed on the porous vacuum mandrel to obtain a desired distribution of the continuous ceramic fiber and the chopped ceramic fiber in the ceramic fiber composite structure or filter.
