Abstract: An exemplary controller for a variable geometry compressor includes one or more inputs for receiving engine operating information and for receiving a signal representative of geometry of a variable geometry compressor and control logic to call for actuation of an actuator based at least in part on the engine operating information received by the one or more inputs and to call for actuation of the actuator based at least in part on the signal received by the one or more inputs whereby actuation of actuator causes a change in geometry of a variable geometry compressor. Various other exemplary technologies are also disclosed.

Abstract: An assembly for a turbocharger includes a shaft with an axial extension and a shaft-side groove portion, the shaft-side groove portion defined at least in part by a radial height; a turbine wheel with a counter bore and a turbine wheel-side groove portion, the turbine wheel-side groove portion defined at least in part by a radial height; and, upon receipt of the axial extension of the shaft by the counter bore of the turbine wheel, a groove formed by the shaft-side groove portion and the turbine wheel-side groove portion, the groove configured to seat a seal component. Abstract: A variable geometry compressor having a housing, a compressor wheel and a plurality of vanes positioned between an exducer of the compressor wheel and a housing volute. The vanes are adjustable through a range of positions, but a vane actuation system is configured to actuate the vanes through three discrete positions from among the range of positions. The actuation system has an actuator that includes an actuator housing containing a diaphragm that divides a housing chamber into two portions. Through the application of a vacuum to either chamber portion, the diaphragm drives a rod to actuate the vanes between two of the discrete vane positions, while a spring returns the vanes to the third position when no vacuum is applied. The actuator is controlled by an open-loop controller.
