    摘要: A data processing device first reads directory data provided for each directory by a file management system which manages files using a directory structure. When meta-data to be attached to the directory data is written in proper XML format, the device appends the meta-data to the end of the read directory data, and outputs the entirety of the data obtained thereby as a directory data file. By appending the meta-data to the end of the directory data in this way, meta-data can be registered by directory with respect to existing data managed by the directory, without affecting existing applications.

    摘要: Apparatus and method for processing hierarchically-coded image data includes structure and steps for storing hierarchically-coded image data and providing a first image data by decoding the hierarchically-coded image data. The first image data having a first resolution is stored in a display memory. The stored first image data is displayed on a display, and an area within the displayed first image is designated for a second image. The second image data is provided by decoding the hierarchically-coded image data and is representative of an image in the designated area of the first image. The second image data having a second resolution is stored in a portion of the display memory while the memory maintains the first image data stored therein. Finally, the display displays a combined image including the first image having the first resolution and the second image having the second resolution.

    摘要: In the retrieval of images that resemble a target image from a plurality of images, the image feature quantity of the target image is calculated when the target image is specified. The feature quantity is calculated upon removing an unnecessary area from the specified target image, and retrieval of resembling images is performed using the feature quantity that has been calculated. The unnecessary area is determined automatically based upon a change in luminance in directions vertically and horizontally of the periphery of the target image. Thus, the calculation of feature quantities from which unnecessary portions in an image have been eliminated can be executed with ease and more effective retrieval of resembling images can be carried out.

    摘要: A moving image processing method and apparatus for efficient access to a large amount of moving image data. By the hierarchical structure of storage media for storing the compressed moving image data, when reproduction of compressed moving image data is displayed, the data can be transferred with an adjustment of the transfer speed to a predetermined display speed of the moving image. More specifically, the compressed moving image data is transferred from a first storage medium having a large capacity and a slow access speed to a second storage medium having a small capacity and a fast access speed and further transferred from the second storage medium to an expander which expands the data and displays the expanded data. The compressed moving image data and the corresponding administrative information are stored separately in different storage media which are accessible independently of each other. However, the moving image data and the administrative information are regarded as one logical file, preventing an access conflict of the moving image data and the administrative information. Thus efficient access and reproduction of moving image data can be performed.
