摘要: This disclosure describes implantable medical leads that include a lead body and an electrode. A width of the electrode as measured along a longitudinal direction of the lead varies about the perimeter of the lead. The uneven width of the electrode may bias a stimulation field in a particular direction, e.g., a radial or transverse direction relative to the longitudinal axis of the lead. Electrodes with an uneven width may be useful for controlling the direction of propagation of the stimulation field in order to, for example, avoid phrenic nerve stimulation during LV pacing or neck muscle stimulation during vagal neurostimulation.

摘要: The invention provides a magnetically shielded container (1) having disposed in parallel opposed position on an axis (S) thereof magnetic field homogenizing pole shoes (10.1, 10.2), having disposed about said pole shoes a magnetically shielded yoke (2), said pole shoes and yoke enclosing a magnetic chamber (26), said container further comprising magnetic field sources (2.4, 2.5) disposed about and radially distanced from said axis whereby there exists within said chamber substantially homogenous magnetic field Bo oriented in the direction of said axis and whereby there is a usable volume within said chamber where the ratio of the magnetic field gradient in the direction transverse to said axis to said magnetic field Bo has a value of no more than 1.5×10−3/cm. By virtue of the very low ratio of weight to volume that is achievable with this construction, the containers according to the invention are economical to produce and especially suited to transporting polarized gasses.

摘要: A chemo-thermo applicator insertable into a tubular membrane in the body of an individual to occupy a site therein in which the surface of the membrane is disrupted by cancerous lesions. The applicator includes concentric inner and outer tubular balloons in which the annular space therebetween is filled with a chemotherapy supply the outer balloon being perforated. In operation, a stream of heated air is fed into the inner balloon which acts to inflate this balloon and to heat the supply to cause it to melt and form a cream. Inflation of the inner balloon acts to expand the outer balloon causing it to conform to the surface of the membrane. The pressure imposed on the supply as the inner balloon expands, forces the heated cream to extrude through the outer balloon perforations to coat the surface of the membrane with the heated cream which then functions as a chemo-thermo agent to destroy the cancerous lesions.

摘要: A memory protection unit includes at least a first access control unit and a second access control unit programmed for controlling an access to a memory device. Further a method to operate a processing system comprising multiple processing devices and multiple memory protection units associated to the multiple processing devices. The access to the memory by a processing device is approved if first access control unit and second access control unit of the memory protection associated to the processing device approves the access and access is rejected if first access control unit or second access control unit rejects the access. The first access control unit is programmable by the associated processing device alone and the programming of the second access control unit is readable by an additional processing device which is to be used in a system with multiple programming devices, not the associate processing device.

摘要: A test signal generator at a transmitter station and a facsimile generator at a receiver station go through an acquisition and tracking process which aligns the two signals, removing errors in the time base of generation, the frequency offset of generation and the time of arrival, so that a logical processor can compute the frequency transfer function of the entire propagation path for use in an adaptive, concurrently sent communication signal. The frequency transfer function is conveyed back to the transmit end via a control channel permitting an adaptivity function at the transmit end to influence subsequent selection of communication parameters, among which are typically transmitted data rate, selection of modulation, selection of forward error correcting coding, and selection of frequency band for transmission. The same measurement is conveyed to an adaptivity function at the receive end for use in the communications receiver to select demodulator variables such as gain control, and equalization of amplitude and phase, versus frequency. The adaptivity function also permits interspersing of reverse-direction communications over the same frequency bands in a time-share mode between forward-direction and reverse-direction communication with the measurement signals having to be transmitted in only one direction. An alternate embodiment invention of this type is described which is additionally useful for mobile communications channels. Another variation embodiment is described for pure propagation measurements only, absent conveyance of end-user information.

摘要: The invention relates to a method for separating titanium tetrachloride and the hydrolyzed reaction products of titanium tetrachloride from the exhaust gases generated during the chlorination of raw materials containing titanium by treating the exhaust gases with a first aqueous hydrochloric-acid solution of titanium oxychloride, where, in the first separation stage (2), small droplets of hydrochloric-acid titanium oxychloride solution (3) are flowed with the exhaust gas flow, and larger droplets of hydrochloric-acid titanium oxychloride solution are flowed counter current to the exhaust to remove the smaller droplets and ensure that virtually no droplets are carried to a second separation stage. In the second separation stage, a second titanium oxychloride solution is injected into a second reactor (9), the second solution having a lower titanium oxychloride concentration than that injected in the first separation stage. The method results in a lower pressure loss in the scrubber system, while retaining the same separation efficiency.
