Abstract: A method is described for the decomposition of polymers, especially waste plastics and used plastics, in which so-called NOR--HALS compounds--that is, for example, compounds comprising the group ##STR1## in which R* is C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 alkyl, OH-substituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 alkyl, optionally C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl-substituted C.sub.5 -C.sub.12 cycloalkyl or O- or S-interrupted C.sub.2 -C.sub.20 alkyl--are added and heating is carried out at temperatures which lie above the customary processing temperatures for polymers (280.degree. C. or more).

Abstract: Disclosed are electret materials with outstanding thermal and charge stability. The electret materials comprise a melt blend of a thermoplastic polymer and one or more compounds selected from the aromatic trisamides. The aromatic trisamides are for example of the formula The melt blends are subjected to an electret treatment, for example a corona treatment. The electret materials are for example nonwoven polyolefin webs and are employed as filter materials, wipes, absorbent materials, filter masks, acoustic materials, printing substrates, measuring devices or contactless switches. The present electret materials may also comprise a further additive selected from the hindered amine light stabilizers and the hydroxyphenylalkylphosphonic esters or monoesters.

Abstract: The invention is directed to an antimicrobial metal composite formed by vaporizing an antimicrobial metal or antimicrobial metal salt such as silver, copper or salts thereof using an plasma system and cooling the formed vapor in the presence of a fluidized gas of filler powder. Alternatively, the filler or a filler precursor is entrained with the antimicrobial metal or antimicrobial metal precursor and vaporized and then upon cooling the antimicrobial metal vapor and filler vapor condense to form the composite. The composite shows high antimicrobial activity and can be incorporated into or onto polymers, coatings, textiles, paper, gels (for example for wound care), lubricants, adhesives and cosmetics or pharmaceutical, especially medical devices.
