The proposed prediction of trends is based on history values of an observable. In more detail, a mathematical model is fitted on history values of an observable, said mathematical model having a ratio factor defined as a ratio between a number of history values used for calculation of a given observable value and a number of observable values modelled simultaneously. Information defining a minimum forecast horizon and a maximum forecast horizon together with respective ratio factor values is received, together with information defining a desired forecast horizon. A desired ratio factor value corresponding to the desired forecast horizon is determined based at least on said desired forecast horizon and said minimum and maximum forecast horizons together with said respective ratio factor values. The desired ratio factor value is used in fitting said mathematical model on said history values of said observable.
Abstract:
A window size for outlier detection in a time series of a database system is determined. Strength values are calculated for data points using a set of window sizes, resulting at least in one set of strength values for each window size. The strength values increase as a distance between a value of a respective data point and a local mean value increases. For each set of strength values, a weighted sum is calculated based on the respective set of strength values. A weighting function is used to suppress the effect of largest strength values and a window size is selected based on the weighted sums.

A cooking appliance, particularly an elevated-mounted cooking appliance, comprising: at least one muffle, which delimits a cooking compartment and whose muffle opening is surrounded by a muffle frame; a door for closing the muffle opening, and; a drive device, which is controlled by a control device and which serves to displace the door. A speed measuring device for determining the displacement speed of the door is provided that enables a pinching in the door to be detected by monitoring the displacement speed.

A method for heating a meal in a closed cooking appliance which is mounted in an elevated manner. Said elevated cooking appliance comprises at least one muffle which comprises a muffle opening and which defines a cooking area, a base door which closes the muffle opening and a ceramic hob which is arranged in the base door. Said method comprises the following steps: (a) at least one meal is placed on the ceramic hob, without cooking utensils, when the cooking appliance, which is mounted in an elevated manner, is in the open state, (b) the elevated cooking appliance is closed and (c) the at least one meal is heated at least by contact heat from the heated ceramic hob when the elevated cooking appliance is in the closed state.

A baking oven and a method of operating the baking oven. The baking oven including a thermally insulated muffle, a circulating fan arranged inside of a fan compartment in the muffle, a least one heating device outside of the fan compartment and adjacent the walls of the muffle. The baking oven further including a control device for switching the heating device and circulating fan off and on, in accordance with a pre-determined temperature/time profile during the operation of the baking oven. The operation of the baking oven compensates for the difference in temperature between a temperature sensor adjacent a wall of the baking oven and the center of the muffle.

The invention provides methods for making a gene library from trace amounts of DNA derived from a plurality of species of organisms comprising obtaining trace amounts of cDNA, gDNA, or genomic DNA fragments from a plurality of species of organisms, amplifying the DNA so obtained, and ligating the DNA to a DNA vector to generate a library of constructs in which genes are contained in the DNA. The invention also provides methods for screening clones having DNA recovered from trace amounts of DNA derived from a plurality of species of uncultivated organisms. The invention also provides methods for identifying and enriching for a polynucleotide encoding an activity of interest.

Disclosed is a process for identifying clones having a specified activity of interest, which process comprises (i) generating one or more expression libraries derived from nuclei acid directly isolated from the environment; and (ii) screening said libraries utilizing a fluorescence activated cell sorter to identify said clones. More particularly, this is a process for identifying clones having a specified activity of interest by (i) generating one or more expression libraries derived from nucleic acid directly or indirectly isolated from the environment; (ii) exposing said libraries to a particular substrate or substrates of interest; and (iii) screening said exposed libraries utilizing a fluorescence activated cell sorter to identify clones which react with the substrate or substrates. Also provided is a process for identifying clones having a specified activity of interest by (i) generating one or more expression libraries derived from nucleic acid directly or indirectly isolated from the environment; and (ii) screening said exposed libraries utilizing an assay requiring co-encapsulation, a binding event or the covalent modification of a target, and a fluorescence activated cell sorter to identify positive clones.
