Abstract: A client device (CLD) for a mobile network may comprise two radios (R-1, R-2) for establishing simultaneous mobile data connections to at least two mobile networks, for example at a country border at which the client device leaves the network range of one mobile network and enters the network range of another. The client device may further be configured to utilize an edge application service (EDG-APP) of a mobile network. To coordinate the switch in connectivity and edge utilization between such different mobile pp networks, a client function (CDCF) may be provided in the client device while separate instances of a network function (EDCF) may be provided in each edge enabling platform of each mobile network. Together, the CDCF and the EDCFs may orchestrate the migration of the edge application service between the mobile networks, in a manner which respects the requirements for separation of concerns, e.g., between a mobile network's operator and an application service provider (ASP).

Abstract: A combiner system may be provided for combining, in a compressed domain, video streams of different media sources in a composite video stream by including a respective video stream as independently decodable spatial segment(s) in the composite video stream. The combiner system may generate composition metadata describing a composition of the spatial segments in the composite video stream and identification metadata comprising identifiers of the respective video streams. A receiver system may obtain decoded video data of a respective video stream based on the composition metadata and a decoding of the composite video stream, and based on the identification metadata, identify a process for handling the decoded video data. Thereby, the composition of spatial segments may dynamically change, while still allowing the receiver device to correctly handle the spatial segments.

Abstract: An orchestration system and method are described for at least in part orchestrating a multidevice video session in which a plurality of devices each transmit a video, for example of a user, via a network and in which a composition system receives said transmitted videos and composites, for a respective device from the plurality of devices, videos of other devices into one or more video streams and transmits the one or more video streams via the network to the device. A grouping of the users/devices may be determined to allow the video stream(s) to be generated for respective devices in a manner which may be dependent on the group to which they are deemed to belong. In particular, the video stream(s) may be generated by the composition system such that the videos of devices within a same group are shown in a better quality than the videos of devices from another group, as a user of a device may prefer to see the users from the same group in a better quality than the users from another group.

Abstract: A gateway system is described for use as a gateway between a client device and a remote server. The client device may stream a data stream via the gateway system to the remote server for remote processing. The gateway system may receive the data stream and markers which identify respective blocks of packets in the data stream, wherein each identified block of packets is independently processable. In response to an instruction or configuration to effect a migration of the remote processing from the remote server to a further remote server, the gateway system may determine a block of packets in the data stream from which block of packets onwards the further remote server is to start processing the data stream so as to effect or initialize the migration, and when received, stream the determined block of packets and subsequent blocks of packets of the data stream to the further remote server.

Abstract: A method of decoding coded pictures of a video is described wherein the method includes the steps of receiving, by a decoder apparatus, a bitstream comprising an encoded representation of first pictures of a first resolution version of the video and decoding the coded first pictures into first pictures, the first pictures being associated with corresponding second pictures of a second resolution version of the video, the first pictures being formed by sampling the corresponding second pictures using a sampling lattice of a plurality of sampling lattices of a spatial subsampling scheme; receiving, by the decoder apparatus, signalling information in the bitstream, the signalling information informing the decoder apparatus about a resolution change and identifying at least one of the first pictures as a first base picture and identifying one or more auxiliary pictures, the first base picture being associated with a corresponding second picture, and, each of the one or more auxiliary pictures being formed based on sampling the second picture using a different sampling lattice of the plurality of sampling lattices; receiving, by the decoder apparatus, an encoded representation of the one or more auxiliary pictures in the bitstream, decoding the encoded representation of the one or more auxiliary pictures into one or more auxiliary pictures and constructing a reference picture of the second resolution based on the first base picture and the one or more auxiliary pictures; and, receiving, by a decoder apparatus, an encoded representation of second pictures in the bitstream and decoding at least part of the encoded representation of the second pictures into one or more second pictures using the constructed reference picture.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for processing an encoded representation of a sequence of pictures are disclosed, wherein the method includes: a processor of a decoding apparatus allocating memory for one or more pictures in a decoded picture buffer, DPB; the processor receiving a bitstream comprising an encoded representation of a current picture, the encoded representation of the current picture comprising a plurality of decoding units, DUs, each of the plurality of DUs comprising an encoded set of pixels; the processor storing the plurality of DUs of the current picture in a coded picture buffer, CPB; the processor decoding the plurality of DUs into decoded DUs of the current picture and storing the decoded DUs in the allocated memory of the DPB, the processor executing at least one partial output during the decoding of the plurality of DUs of the current picture, the performing of the at least one partial output including: copying one or more of the decoded DUs from the DPB to a data sink before all of the plurality of DUs are decoded, the one or more decoded DUs representing one or more areas of pixels in the current picture; determining output information comprising information about the one or more areas of pixels that are copied to the data sink and information for identifying the current picture; providing access to the output information for use by an application or an application programming interface, API, outside the decoding apparatus.
