Abstract: Examples include a security document having a substrate with a transparent window. In the region of the transparent window, a micro-optical structure including microlenses is arranged on one side of the substrate and a first print image is arranged on the other side of the substrate, opposite the micro-optical structure. A layer covers at least a section of the first print image. The layer allows electromagnetic radiation having a wavelength in the range of 380 nm to 780 nm to pass with a transparency in a range between 10% and 90%. The transparency gradually varies over a planar extension of the layer. A second print image is arranged on the layer in such a way that the second print image, or at least a piece of information contained therein, can be brought into alignment with the micro-optical structure after carrying out a folding process and becomes visible and/or recognizable.

Abstract: Examples include a device for providing sheet-format substrate sections from a web-format substrate. The device includes a roll unwinder for inlet-side feeding of the web-format substrate. Two application devices act on the same first side of the web substrate, and are formed by coating units for supplying, to the same first side of the web substrate, a varnish that forms a barrier layer. A drying device is provided between a cross-cutting device and an upstream first coating unit and/or the drying device is provided in the substrate path between the two coating units and the cross-cutting device. The web-format substrate can be cut into sheet-format substrate sections and, at the outlet, the substrate sections can be provided for subsequent processing or output to a delivery unit.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for ink control in a printing press, wherein, during an ongoing printing process, an opaque ink (02) is printed onto a print substrate (01) in a first printing unit (06), and subsequently a transparent printing ink (03) is printed onto the opaque ink (02) in a second printing unit (07), at least one actual value of the optical density of the opaque ink (02) being ascertained by a first detection device (08) for this opaque ink (02) printed onto the print substrate (01), a film thickness of this opaque ink (02) to be applied onto the print substrate (01) being set at the relevant printing unit (06) by a control unit (11) detecting the at least one actual value of the optical density of this opaque ink (02), as a function of a previously ascertained value of the optical density of the surface of the unprinted print substrate (01), in such a way that the at least one actual value of the optical density of this opaque ink (02) detected by the first detection device (08) corresponds to a target value set at this control unit (11) for this opaque ink (02), taking a tolerance range defined in the control unit (11) for this opaque ink (02) into consideration; at least one actual value of the optical density of this printing ink (03) being ascertained by a second detection device (09) for the printing ink (03) printed onto the previously printed opaque ink (02); and a film thickness of this printing ink (03) to be applied onto the opaque ink (02) being set at the printing unit (07) printing this printing ink (03) by the control unit (11) which also detects the at least one actual value of the optical density of this printing ink (03), as a function of the film thickness of the opaque ink (02) previously applied to the print substrate (01) or as a function of the actual value of the optical density of this opaque ink (02), in such a way that the at least one actual value of the optical density of this printing ink (03) detected by the second detection device (09) corresponds to a target value set at the control unit (11) for this printing ink (03), taking a tolerance range defined in the control unit (11) for this printing ink (03) into consideration.

Abstract: In some examples, a processing machine for processing a substrate includes at least one shaping unit. The at least one shaping unit includes at least one forme cylinder and at least one impression cylinder. A processing point for processing a substrate is arranged between the at least one forme cylinder and the at least one impression cylinder. The processing machine includes a control unit for correcting a processing length of the substrate, and which controls a speed of at least one of the at least one forme cylinder or the at least one impression cylinder. The at least one forme cylinder and the at least one impression cylinder have a speed ratio with respect to one another that is changeable at the processing point as a function of the processing length of the substrate, and the speed ratio differs at least once within a full cylinder revolution.

Abstract: In some examples, a die-cutting machine includes a transport system configured as a chain gripper system. The chain gripper system includes a chain gripper carriage including a holding element for holding a sheet. The chain gripper carriage is arranged to be attached to at least one chain that is arranged to guide the chain gripper carriage on a guide path through at least part of the die-cutting machine. The chain gripper carriage includes a contact element functionally connected to the holding element. A chain gripper opener includes a contact surface at which, in the presence of the gripper carriage at the contact surface, the contact element cooperates with the chain gripper opener. The holding element is transferred at least from a closed position into an open position by cooperation of the chain gripper opener with the contact element. The chain gripper opener is adjustable by at least one drive.

Abstract: Some examples include checking the quality of printed products that are consecutively produced by multiple printing presses to have at least three printed patterns spaced apart from one another. The printed patterns are printed using different printing processes, such as a steel engraving process, an offset printing process, and a screen printing process that may be used for printing the three printed patterns of each printed product. A screen printing press is used for the screen printing process, with multiple steel plates being alternately used in the same production operation for the steel engraving process in an intaglio printing press. For at least two of the steel plates involved in carrying out the steel engraving process, a processing unit may selectively ascertain the deviation of the respective value of the relevant distances associated with the printed patterns, which may be instantaneously ascertained from a defined scale.
