    摘要: Copolymers of (1) from about 80% to about 98% by weight of acrylic acid and (2) from about 2% to about 20% by weight of itaconic acid and having a weight average molecular weight of between about 50,000 to about 1,000,000, preferably between about 100,000 to about 500,000, and which are at least water dispersible, are used as fluid loss control additives for aqueous drilling fluids and are particularly advantageous when used with muds containing soluble calcium and muds containing chloride ions such as seawater muds. An example is a copolymer of 95% by weight acrylic acid and 5% by weight itaconic acid in its sodium salt form.

    摘要: Aqueous carbonaceous mixtures such as water slurries of solid particulate carbonaceous materials having reduced viscosity, a stabilized network of carbonaceous materials in water and improved pumpability are obtained by using a condensation product of an aldehyde in aldehyde liberating composition, ketone and sulfur dioxide in a sulfur dioxide liberating composition as dispersant, the dispersant being present in an amount sufficient to reduce viscosity of the slurry, stabilize the network of carbonaceous materials in water and improve pumpability. An improved process for the condensation product is disclosed.

    摘要: Improved stabilized water slurries of carbonaceous materials are obtained by having present a condensation product or a salt thereof of a substituted phenol sulfonic acid which is(a) an arylphenol sulfonic acid,(b) an aralkylphenol sulfonic acid,(c) an arylphenol sulfonic acid and arylsulfonic acid mixture, or(d) an aralkylphenol sulfonic acid and arylsulfonic acid mixture,condensed with from about 0.5 to about 4.0 moles of formaldehyde per mole of sulfonic acid with the proviso that the weight ratio if substituted phenol sulfonic acid to arylsulfonic acid is from about 0.95:0.05 to about 0.05:0.95 in the mixtures, the condensation product being present in an amount sufficient to reduce viscosity of the water slurry of carbonaceous materials, to stabilize carbonaceous materials in the water network and to improve its pumpability. If desired, an acid form or a salt of the condensation product may be used.

    摘要: Byproduct ammonium ions remaining in an aqueous solution of a water soluble glucoheptonate salt after its synthesis are reacted with the free acid form of a naphthalenesulfonic acid-formaldehyde condensation product to obtain an aqueous composition which does not produce an ammonia odor when introduced into aqueous media having a pH above 9. The aqueous composition can be dried to obtain a flowable powder. Both the aqueous composition and flowable powder are useful as additives in industrial products. They may be used to prolong the time of hydration of cement.

    摘要: Liquid isocyanate-terminated polyurethane prepolymers are cured by mixing them with about 5% to 200% by weight, preferably 10% to 100% by weight, based on the weight of prepolymer, of an aqueous colloidal dispersion selected from aqueous alkali metal silicates containing from about 20% to 60% solids and aqueous magnesium oxide containing from about 5% to 40% solids. The water associated with the aqueous dispersion is bound in the cured product and thus the dispersions act as both curing agents and low cost extenders. The cured materials may be non-porous elastomeric products or finely cellular products. Some of the cellular products are rigid and suitable for, e.g., structural applications. Both types of products have good flame retardant properties.

    摘要: Cementing compositions and methods of using such compositions in oil, gas and water well cementing operations to reduce fluid loss from the composition to the formation are disclosed. Such compositions incorporate a terpolymer formed from (a) an acid monomer selected from the group consisting of 2-acrylamido, 2-methyl propane sulfonic acid (AMPS), sodium vinyl sulfonate or vinyl benzene sulfonate, and metal salts thereof at about 10 to 75 weight percent in the polymer; (b) an unsaturated polybasic acid such as itaconic acid at about 1 to 60 weight percent; and metal salts thereof and (c) a nonionic monomer selected from the group consisting of acrylamide, N, N dimethylacrylamide, N-vinyl pyrrolidone, N-vinyl acetamide, or dimethylamino ethyl methacrylate and metal salts thereof at about 10 to 76 weight percent. The terpolymer should have a molecular weight between 200,000 to 1,000,000. The preferred terpolymer comprise AMPS, acrylamide and itaconic acid. The polymer is used as a fluid loss agent in oil well cementing in conjunction with dispersants, like naphthalene sulfonate formaldehyde condensate alkali salt, a polymer of ketone aldehyde sulfonate alkali salt, or lignosulfonate. At the same time, all of the above can be used in freshwater to saturated NaCl or seawater cement slurries where HEC fluid loss additive does not work.
