Abstract:
A novel class of dendritic macromolecules is provided having a core, a hyperbranched structure, and a plurality of units satisfying the formula —NR2(C═O)R1, in which R1 is not a continuation of the hyperbranched structure. Methods of preparing these dendritic macromolecules are also provided, as well as methods of using dendritic macromolecules, including those described above, in separation processes or as part of in situ leach mining processes. A class of facilities for in situ leach mining is also provided.
Abstract:
Novel thiophene polymers include homopolymers and random or alternating polymers. They may be included in electronic conducting devices such as photovoltaic cells, transistors and light emitters. The polymers provide improved performance in thin film transistors and electronic devices in which they are incorporated.
Abstract:
The use of porous monolithic matrix for matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry analysis on a sample suspected of containing an analyte is herein described. The porous polymer monoliths provide a matrix suitable for use in detecting and analyzing low molecular weight and small molecules. The matrices described herein also facilitate the creation of arrays of monolithic matrices for high-throughput detection and screening using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry and exhibit a long shelf-life.
Abstract:
Organosulfur compounds suitable as protected thiol-containing reactive organic layer precursors, for example 3,5-dimethoxy-α,α-dimethylbenzyloxycarbonyl-3-mercaptopropyltriethoxysilane, are useful in methods of nanometer scale (nanoscale) patterning and fabrication of nanoscale structures on patterned surfaces. The compounds and methods enable the patternwise placement of nanoparticles, with nanometer resolution to form, for example, electrically conductive nanostructures.
Abstract:
A composition for personal, home, or laundry treatment comprising a polymer made up of one or more crosslinked rake or comb silicone copolymer segments. A process for making copolymers for use in such compositions involves hydrosilylation in the presence of a catalyst.
Abstract:
Hyperbranched macromolecules and methods are described for selectively filtering contaminants such as anions from water and non-aqueous solutions, particularly in the presence of competing contaminants including other anions. The hyperbranched macromolecules may contain alkyl, 2-hydroxyalkyl, 2-methyl-2-hydroxylalkyl, 2-hydroxy-2-phenylalkyl, and other groups, which may be hydrophilic or hydrophobic. The molecules may preferentially bind to the contaminant at interest at low pH, and release the contaminant at a pH of about 9. The molecules may be used to filter contaminants including perchlorate and nitrate even in the presence of high sulfate concentrations.

Abstract:
Novel microgels, microparticles and related polymeric materials capable of delivering bioactive materials to cells for use as vaccines or therapeutic agents. The materials are made using a crosslinker molecule that contains a linkage cleavable under mild acidic conditions. The crosslinker molecule is exemplified by a bisacryloyl acetal crosslinker. The new materials have the common characteristic of being able to degrade by acid hydrolysis under conditions commonly found within the endosomal or lysosomal compartments of cells thereby releasing their payload within the cell. The materials can also be used for the delivery of therapeutics to the acidic regions of tumors and sites of inflammation.
Abstract:
Porous polymeric matrix materials in the form of an integral body having a property gradient selected from any of pore size distribution, chemical composition or a combination thereof are disclosed along with a process for making the same.
