摘要: Compositions and methods of making a culture medium from a polymeric material are described herein. The method can include (a) depolymerizing and/or dispersing the polymeric material to obtain a depolymerized and/or dispersed residue, and (b) combining the depolymerized and/or dispersed residue with one or more adjuvants to form a culture medium. In some embodiments, the polymeric material can be a plastic article, such as a waste carpet material. Culture media prepared from the compositions and methods are also described. The culture media are suitable for culturing microorganisms including bacterium, algae, and fungus. The microorganisms can be used to produce a bioproduct such as a biopolymer, an enzyme, or a cellular metabolite.

摘要: Carbon monoxide-releasing organic molecules are described herein. The molecules can be synthesized prior to administration (e.g., ex vivo) or formed in vivo. In those embodiments where the molecules are formed in vivo, reactants are administered under physiological conditions and undergo a cycloaddition reaction to form a product which releases carbon monoxide. In applying such reactions for therapeutic applications in vivo, the cycloaddition and CO release typically occur only under near-physiological or physiological conditions. For example, in some embodiments, the cycloaddition reaction and/or release of carbon monoxide occur at a temperature of about 37° C. and pH of about 7.4. Pharmaceutical compositions and methods for release carbon monoxide are also described.

摘要: Embodiments of the present systems and methods may provide improved capability to predict the risk of recurrence of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) conditions using whole slide image analysis based on machine learning techniques. For example, in an embodiment, a computer-implemented method for determining treatment of a patient may comprise receiving an image of living tissue of a patient, annotating the entire image into tissue structures, extracting texture features from the annotated image, determining a distribution of the extracted texture features relative to tissue conditions, classifying the patient into a risk group based on the distribution, and treating the patient accordingly based on the risk group.

摘要: Monolayer protected nanoclusters (MPCs) are described herein. The MPCs contain a cluster of atoms or molecules (e.g. core) having bound thereto a plurality of ligands (e.g., monolayer). The ligands can be bound covalently or semi-covalently bound to the cluster. The ligands are generally in the form of a monolayer or mixed monolayer. The monolayer or mixed monolayer contains a plurality of ligands. In one embodiment, the monolayer and/or mixed monolayer contains 1,4-dithiolate ligands. The MPCs described herein exhibit improved quantum efficiency allowing for single cluster emissions to be measured. Moreover, some embodiments of the MPCs described herein exhibit enhanced redox activity, including the ability to transfer a plurality of electrons, i.e., up to about 19 or up to about 30 electrons under controlled conditions, while displaying improved overall chemical stability. Such behavior can be utilized in catalysis and nanoelectronics applications.

摘要: Disclosed herein are compositions and methods for sequestering heavy metal atoms, including hazardous atoms such as lead and radiocesium, from contaminated areas. The heavy metal atoms may be removed by contacting the contaminated area with a potassium-depleted muscovite-enriched composition. The compositions may also be incorporated into building materials to create structures to safely house nuclear reactors and other devices which may accidentally release heavy metal atoms.
