The present invention relates generally to a microporous film, in particular to a microporous film which can be used in an ink-jet recording medium of photographic quality that has excellent ink absorption speed, good drying characteristics and a good image printing quality. According to the present invention, an ink-jet recording medium is provided, comprising a support to which a (micro)porous or water swellable layer is adhered. The present invention is further directed to methods for obtaining such a medium.
