摘要: An active stethoscope or other sound detection device, including a diaphragm, at least one floating mass mounted to the diaphragm (at at least one coupling point of the diaphragm), and an acoustic transducer mounted to the floating mass. Preferably, each floating mass is configured and mounted so that as each floating mass and each coupling point of the diaphragm move in sympathy with acoustic waves (to be detected) that impinge on the diaphragm, the acoustic transducer rides with and is stabilized by the floating mass to which it is mounted and the diaphragm is stabilized by each floating mass. The acoustic transducer can be of any of many different types. For example, it can be a microphone, or an optical, capacitive, or inductive transducer. The diaphragm can have an isolating portion which absorbs acoustic surface wave energy incident thereon, or otherwise prevents or reduces transmission of acoustic surface waves through the isolating portion between regions of the diaphragm.

摘要: A novel self-supporting flat display screen based on thermionic emission of indirectly heated cathode structures (23, 30, 31, 32, 34; 230, 32, 34) is provided utilizing micro-filament heaters (21) that can be interconnected in any predetermined manner. The planar micro-filament (21) construction utilizes Dewer and Dewer-like techniques (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15) for controlling the thermal energy emitted and lowering the power consumption of a display device. Several control electrode techniques (42, 52, 33, 133, 142) are also incorporated in the invention to reduce the voltage levels required to control the display and simplify the overall electronic control circuitry needed by the display device. These techniques are combined to provide a high intensity, high contrast flat panel display using low voltage off-the-shelf electronic driver circuitry.

摘要: An ear piece assembly (10, 100, 200, 300, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, 1000) designed for a stethoscope or other headpiece, and configured to allow rotation of an ear tip (20, 120, 220, 320, 420, 520, 620) of the assembly about a central axis (relative to the rest of the assembly) and to allow limited off axis movement of the ear tip (relative to the rest of the assembly). In typical embodiments, the ear piece assembly is designed to fit a user's ear canal and stay in place during typical use without rotational or off axis movement of the ear tip relative to the ear canal, and to provide substantially more comfort to the user than would a headpiece with a conventional ear tip assembly, particularly for prolonged wearing by the user. Other aspects of the invention are a headpiece (e.g., a stethoscope headpiece) or stethoscope including an embodiment of the earpiece assembly, an ear piece housing body configured for use in an embodiment of the earpiece assembly, and an ear tip configured for use in an embodiment of the earpiece assembly.

摘要: An asymmetric adjustment mechanism, a head piece (e.g., stethoscope head piece or audio headset) including such an adjustment mechanism coupled to an ear tip subassembly, and a stethoscope including such a head piece. In typical embodiments, the adjustment mechanism can be closed (e.g., to reduce separation between ear tips) by exertion of closing force on the ear tip subassembly, or opened by exertion of opening force on the ear tip subassembly. In some embodiments, it automatically locks (e.g., with a desired separation between ear tips) upon cessation of user-exerted adjustment force in a locked state in which it exerts no more than an acceptably small (e.g. zero) bias force on the ear tip subassembly. The bias force has magnitude less than that of the opening force required to separate the ear tips to remove them from the user's ears. Preferably, the adjustment mechanism closes in response to relatively low closing force on the ear tip subassembly but requires that the user exert greater opening force to open it. Some embodiments of the adjustment mechanism are configured for use (e.g., as hinges) in or with apparatus other than head pieces, such as, for example, home appliance or motor vehicle doors, non slamming house doors, springless gates, or laptop screens.

摘要: A fully integrated, low cost, amplified electro-acoustic loudspeaker is disclosed in which an amplifier circuit (30, 130, 230, 330, 930, 1030), radio-frequency receiver amplifier circuit (430, 530), optical receiver amplifier circuit (630, 730), or network based amplifier circuit (830) is directly mounted on the loudspeaker's magnetic assembly (105, 505, 705, 805), contained within the loudspeaker's moving assembly (20, 29, 629, 42, 45, 50, 65), or a combination thereof. The amplified loudspeaker's magnetic assembly (5, 105, 405, 505, 705, 805, 905, 1005) is utilized as an electro-magnetic interference shield and/or a heat dissipating element for the attached electronic circuitry. In selected embodiments of the amplified loudspeaker system, the former (42) containing voice coil (45) is additionally utilized for convection cooling of the amplifier circuit (30, 230) or receiver/amplifier circuit combination (430, 630).
