Abstract: A stent assembly (42) adapted for endoluminal placement by endovascular deployment for the treatment of a false lumen (10) associated with a vascular dissection. The stent assembly has a number of self expanding stents (35) connected together to define an elongate substantially cylindrical lumen wall engaging surface. The stents are adapted to provided pressure on the wall of the lumen adjacent to and extending away from a rupture. A deployment device (40) for the stent assembly includes a sheath (48) and a retention and release arrangement (50) to retain the proximal end (37) of the stent graft to the deployment device. Release of the stent assembly is by withdrawal of the sheath before release of its proximal end by the use of a trigger wire (54) of the retention and release arrangement.

Abstract: A stent graft introducer (1) has a distally opening capsule (5) on a nose cone dilator (3) and a plug device (17; 53) in the capsule. The plug device (17; 53) is movable longitudinally within the capsule (5) to move to a distal end (7) of the capsule (5) to extend from the capsule (5) whereby to provide a smooth transition from the otherwise distal opening (7) of the capsule (5) to enable retraction of the nose cone dilator (3) through a deployed stent graft (35). The capsule (5) includes an in-turned distal end (7) and the plug device (17; 53) has a proximal shoulder (25) whereby to prevent the plug device (17; 53) from being completely withdrawn from the capsule (5). The plug device (17; 53) has a distal linearly tapered surface (27) or a distally facing bullet shaped surface (57). There can be an arrangement (72; 80) to prevent subsequent retraction of the plug device (53; 17).

Abstract: There is disclosed a locking unit (100) for locking a pusher (128) to a sheath assembly (164). The locking unit (100) includes a longitudinal locking portion (102) and a radial locking portion (104). The longitudinal locking portion (102) includes a plurality of cantilevered fingers (110) provided with longitudinally extending teeth (112) on internal surfaces thereof. A nut (108) can be tightened in order to bias the cantilevered arms (110) towards a pusher (128) such that the teeth (112) indent the outer surface of the pusher (128) to produce a strong and stable locking connection thereto. The radial locking section (104) latches onto the assembly integral with the sheath (164) so as to provide a radial locking action as well as a longitudinal locking action. The locking unit (100) provides a strong and reliable locking action between the pusher (128) and the sheath assembly (164) and can be easily removed by a clinician or surgeon during the deployment process.

Abstract: A fenestrated stent graft (1) with a tubular side arm (11) extending therefrom in which the side arm can be turned inside out to extend into the stent graft during deployment of the stent graft and extended out during deployment. Abstract: A stent graft (40) for treating Type-A dissections in the ascending aorta (22) is provided with a plurality of diameter-reducing suture loops (56-60) operable to constrain the stent graft during deployment thereof in a patient's aorta. The diameter-reducing loops (56-60) allow the stent graft (40) to be partially deployed, in such a manner that its location can be precisely adjusted in the patient's lumen. In this manner, the stent graft can be placed just by the coronary arteries (26, 28) with confidence that these will not be blocked. The stent graft (40) is also provided with proximal and distal bare stents (44,52) for anchoring purposes.

Abstract: A stent or stent-graft deployment device and in particular a pusher member for such a device are disclosed. The pusher member (62) is provided with a reduced outer diameter section (64) and a pusher head (60). The reduced outer diameter section (64) reduces the thickness of the wall of the pusher member (62), with the result that the rigidity of the pusher member (62) is reduced at its distal end. This reduction in rigidity reduces the transition in flexibility between a guidewire catheter (24) extending through and beyond an inner channel of the pusher member (62) and the distal end of the pusher member (62). Thus, there is a gradual change in rigidities at the junction between these two components, which can reduce the possibility of kinking.

Abstract: A deployment device for deploying stents, stent-grafts and other implants into a patient includes a catheter (112) with a containment sheath (116). Held onto the catheter (112) is a stent-graft structure (120). The containment sheath (116) extends over the entirety of the stent graft section (122) so as to constrain it in its entirety on the catheter (112), until the sheath (116) is removed. The containment sheath (116) extends from the distal position (126) of the stent graft section (122) to the tip (114) and then into the central lumen (128) of the catheter (112). It may extend throughout the lumen (128) to the proximal end of the deployment device (10), in other words to the external manipulation section of the delivery device (10). The sheath (116) is withdrawn by pulling towards the external manipulation section of the delivery device. As this is effected, the containment sheath (116) is pulled over the end (114) of the catheter and into the central lumen (128) of the catheter (112). As this occurs the containment sheath (116) is in effect withdrawn into the catheter (112), thereby releasing the stent-graft section (122) gradually. Continued pulling will gradually pull the entirety of the containment sheath (116) into the open end of the catheter (112), thereby releasing the entirety of the stent-graft section (122).
