Abstract:
Medical dressings are disclosed that include multiple exposed pressure sensitive adhesives. One of the pressure sensitive adhesives includes a bioactive agent and is substantially contact transparent. In some embodiments, all of the adhesives are substantially contact transparent. Also provided are methods of manufacturing the medical dressings. By providing multiple exposed pressure sensitive adhesives, the pressure sensitive adhesive formulations can be varied to provide desired properties in different areas of the dressing. A pressure sensitive adhesive that exhibits relatively high tack to skin may be provided around the periphery of the dressing while a pressure sensitive adhesive incorporating a bioactive agent is provided in the center of the dressing. Alternatively, a higher tack pressure sensitive adhesive may be provided at two opposing sides of the dressing with a bioactive adhesive located in between the opposing portions of higher tack adhesive. The present invention also provides methods of transferring adhesives using a mask such that the adhesive is transferred to selected areas of a receiving surface. The mask may be provided in the form of a liner including a plurality of voids formed therein.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an adhesive article that includes a backing substrate and a discontinuous adhesive layer disposed thereon, wherein the backing substrate comprises a fibrous web and absorbent particulate material, and further wherein the article has an initial wet skin adhesion of at least 20 g/2.5 cm (0.08 N/cm).
Abstract:
An improved 2,6-dialkylaniline process carried out by reacting an aromatic amine having an unsubstituted ortho position with an olefin in the presence of an aluminum anilide type catalyst followed by catalyst deactivation and distillation to remove 2,6-dialkylaniline. The distillation residue is catalytically hydrogenated and then distilled to recover additional 2,6-dialkylaniline.
Abstract:
Packaged viscoelastic compositions comprising viscoelastic copolymers and a packaging material are disclosed. The viscoelastic copolymers are urea copolymers, which are the reaction product of polyisocyanates and polyamines. The packaged viscoelastic compositions are hot melt processable.
Abstract:
Crosslinked, absorbent pressure sensitive adhesive compositions are disclosed comprising an acrylate or methacrylate ester of an alcohol, a hydrophilic alkylene oxide acrylate, a hydrophilic N-vinyl lactam, and an effective amount of a crosslinking agent. The compositions have an enhanced skin adhesion profile and are moderately absorbent. Also disclosed are precursor adhesive compositions and low-profile wound dressings.
Abstract:
A moldable, putty-like adhesive mass is disclosed comprising a blend of (1) an acrylate terpolymer adhesive containing a hydrophilic macromolecular moiety and (2) a reinforcing material which is a carbonylamido group containing polymer. The adhesive blends are moisture vapor permeable and non-water swellable. They are useful in many medical applications.
