摘要: A method for attenuating sound waves passing from a source area to a receiving area comprises the steps of providing a nonwoven acoustical insulation web comprising thermoplastic fibers, the web having an average effective fiber diameter of less than about 15 microns, a density of less than about 50 kg/m.sup.3, and an air pressure drop across the web of at least about 1 Mm water at a flow rate of about 32 liters/min.; and positioning the web between the source area and the receiving area such that a major face of the web intercepts and thereby attenuates sound waves passing from the source area to the receiving area. Also, a laminate adapted to be applied to the inner panel of a vehicle door comprises the web and a second layer, such as a scrim, nonwoven fabric, film, or foil, laminated thereto. The laminate can be applied to the inner panel of a vehicle door so that the second layer provides water barrier protection and the web provides acoustical insulation. Also, a nonwoven acoustical insulation web comprising thermoplastic fibers, the web having an average effective fiber diameter of less than about 15 microns, a density of less than about 20 kg/m.sup.3, and a pressure drop of at least about 1 mm water at a flow rate of about 32 liters/min. The web typically comprises melt-blown microfibers and crimped bulking fibers in a weight percent ratio of about 40:60 to about 95:5, respectively.

摘要: A method and apparatus for tentering nonwoven webs during annealing. The nonwoven web of thermoplastic fibers is restrained on a tentering structure at a plurality of tentering points distributed across an interior portion of the web, rather than just along its edges. The nonwoven web is annealed while restrained on the tentering structure to form a dimensionally stable nonwoven fibrous web, dimensionally stable up to at least the heatsetting temperature. The annealed nonwoven fibrous web is then removed from the tentering structure. In one embodiment, the tentering structure restrains the nonwoven fibrous web in a non-planar configuration during the annealing process. The tentering structure includes a plurality of tentering points projecting distally from a tentering support. The tentering points are positioned to be engaged with an interior portion of the web, thus restraining the web during annealing.

摘要: Presently described are loop materials comprising continuous multi-filament textured yarns intermittently bonded to a backing. In one embodiment, the yarn has a denier of less than 50, an energy at break of at least 60 joules/g, and an elongation of less than 45%. The multi-filament textured yarns preferably have a basis weight of no greater than 10 gsm and in some embodiments no greater than 5 gsm. In another embodiment, the loop material has a basis weight of no greater than 5 gsm and is characterized by having a ratio of shear strength to yarn basis weight of at least 300 g(f)/(g/m2). Such loop material preferably comprises a yarn having a denier of less than 50.

摘要: Sound insulation constructions, multilayer constructions for acoustically insulating a source of sound from a receiver that include one or more sound insulation constructions, structures comprising one or more sound insulation constructions and/or multilayer constructions, and a method for acoustically insulating a source of sound from a receiver. In some embodiments, the sound insulation construction includes a first layer and a second layer. The first layer can include a bonded fiber nonwoven web exhibiting a work of compression of at least about 0.7 kJ/m3 and an airflow resistance of no greater than 10,000 Rayls/m. The second layer can exhibit an airflow resistance of greater than 10,000 Rayls/m. In some embodiments, the method includes coupling the first layer to a surface of a vehicle to attenuate sound in at least a portion of the vehicle.
