摘要: A method for ultrasonic debulking a composite laminate includes the steps of defining a path across the laminate, the path having a starting location and an ending location and applying a force to and transmitting ultrasonic vibration into the laminate along the path, beginning at the starting location and ending at the ending location. The method further includes determining a temperature of a surface of the laminate proximate to the path and varying at least one of an amplitude of the ultrasonic vibration, the applied force, a feed rate at which the force and the ultrasonic vibration are applied along the path, an angle at which the ultrasonic vibration is applied to the laminate, and an interval at which plies of the laminate are processed, based upon the determined temperature of the surface of the laminate.

摘要: An inflatable bladder system for applying generally uniform pressure to parts being welded to insure proper contact at the welding interface includes a first sheet that is generally transparent to electromagnetic radiation to allow such radiation to pass therethrough. This electromagnetic radiation serves to heat the parts to a temperature sufficient to create a weld. The inflatable bladder also includes a second sheet that is also generally transparent to electromagnetic radiation. The second sheet is coupled to the first sheet to create a sealed volume therebetween. Fluid is selectively introduced into the sealed volume in order to expand the bladder into engagement with the parts being welded to exert a generally uniform pressure thereon.

摘要: A coating having source from plant protein that is water insoluble and sprayable. The coating is derived from soy protein or other plants and consists of chemistries that promote water stability and insolubility in water. The spraying device for such coating is an aerosol pressure driven system or similar. The coating converts from a liquid to a solid after a length of time which can be accelerated through heating.

摘要: A laser joining system deforms a workpiece projection based on collapse of the projection to a predetermined displacement. The laser joining system has a laser system for generating a predetermined level of laser radiation based on radiation control signals. An actuation system directs the laser radiation to the projection and contacts the projection with a laser head based on forced control signals. The actuation system also generates position feedback based on a position of the laser head, wherein the position feedback includes a reference position of the laser head. The joining system further includes a controller communicating with the laser system and the actuation system. The controller generates the radiation control signals and the force control signals based on the position feedback. When the projection collapses to a predetermined displacement with respect to the referenced position, one of the radiation control signals causes the laser system to discontinue generation of the laser radiation. Controlling laser radiation on the basis of collapse distance allows improved consistency and reduced rework costs.

摘要: The invention provides energy efficient depolymerization of polyesters such as post-consumer polylactic acid. Ultrasonic induced implosions can be used to facilitate the depolymerization. The expanding market of polylactic acid-based plastic products, such as water bottles and packaging materials, has raised concerns of contaminating the recycling stream, which is largely filled with petroleum-based plastics. Thus the development of an energy efficient and economically viable PLA recycling process is urgently needed. Post consumer PLA was exposed to methanol as the suspension media in the presence of organic or ionic salts of alkali metals such a potassium carbonate and sodium hydroxide as depolymerization catalysts to provide high quality lactic acid monomers in high yield.

摘要: An ultrasonic welding apparatus has a power supply coupled to a weld stack. The weld stack has an ultrasonic transducer coupled to a horn by a booster. The horn has a horn tip. The weld cycle of the ultrasonic welding apparatus is amplitude profiled so that during an initial period, the weld amplitude at the horn tip is high and after the initial period, the weld amplitude is low.
