摘要: A method is disclosed for estimating the exposure of vehicle occupants to environmental conditions capable of inducing a least discomfort. The occupants are alerted to their proximity to a zone where environmentally-challenging conditions exist and, in a first embodiment, the details of the environmental condition and the estimated duration of any exposure is communicated to the occupants; in a second embodiment a suggested course of action by which the occupants may mitigate the effect of the environmental occurrence is communicated; and in a third embodiment the proposed course of action is automatically executed subject to override by the occupants.

摘要: A method of reducing glare may include sensing a first light source with a second vehicle, and sensing a second light source with a first vehicle and oscillating a first light source ICF between a substantially opaque state and a substantially clear state on a first schedule. A second windscreen ICF may be oscillating between the substantially opaque state and the substantially clear state on a second schedule different from the first schedule. A position of the light source may be sensed and an eye position of the occupant estimated. An intersecting region of the selectively-darkenable ICF, which is located substantially along a line from the position of the light source to the eye position, is calculated. The intersecting region of the ICF is darkened, such that a reduced amount of light from the light source passes through the intersecting region.

摘要: A method of enhancing the ductility of magnesium alloy sheets containing 85% or more by weight of magnesium is described. An annealed, substantially strain free, sheet of generally uniform grain size is locally deformed in local regions to develop strained ‘islands’ of a predetermined strain embedded in a substantially strain-free matrix and then annealed. The deformed regions undergo recrystallization and grain growth while the remainder of the sheet suffers only minor change in grain size, leading to sheet with grains having a bimodal size distribution. The ductility of alloys processed in this way is significantly greater than the ductility of the unprocessed, uniform grain size alloy without compromise to the tensile strength of the alloy.

摘要: A method is provided for filling a hollow structure with metal foam. A mixture is made of a metal powder and a foaming agent. An electric resistance heating wire is provided and the mixture is consolidated into a solid preformed charge with the wire embedded in the charge and extending from the ends thereof. The preformed charge is placed into the hollow structure and electric current is applied to the resistance heating wire so that the metal powder is melted and the foaming agent foams the melted metal to fill the hollow structure.

摘要: A method is provided for enhancing service diagnostics for root cause analysis of an identified problem in a vehicle. Service repair data of previously serviced vehicles is obtained from a memory storage device. The service data is compiled based on a service repair history for each vehicle. Each vehicle within the compiled service data having at least two service repairs performed within a predetermined period of time is identified. Combinations of parts serviced during each service repair are identified. A count is determined that indicates the number of times each combination appears in the compiled service data. The combinations having counts greater than a predetermined threshold are identified. A determination is made whether any of the combinations having counts greater than the predetermined threshold are present in the structural taxonomy database. A functional taxonomy database is updated by assigning the selected combinations to the function taxonomy database not present in the structural taxonomy database.

摘要: A system may be used to detect corrosion between a first metal and a second metal, where the second metal is positioned adjacent to the first metal. The system may include a processor electrically coupled to each of the first and the second metals and configured to monitor a complex impedance between the first metal and the second metal, where the complex impedance may include a real component and an imaginary component. The processor may compare the real component of the complex impedance to a first threshold, compare the imaginary component of the complex impedance to a second threshold, and indicate a likelihood of corrosion if at least one of the real and imaginary components are below their respective threshold.
