Abstract: A medical device includes a handle portion downwardly extending from an examination portion. The handle portion has opposing upper and lower open ends and a through cavity extending therebetween. An illumination assembly mounted within the open upper end of cavity includes a housing, at least one battery disposed within the housing, and an LED disposed at the distal end of an arm extending from the housing. The housing is mounted through the open upper end of the through cavity. According to at least one version, the at least one battery can be removed without removing the housing from the handle portion. The extending arm is supported by the examination portion and configured to provide illumination to a medical target. The medical device can include a vaginal speculum, sigmoidoscope, laryngoscope, anoscope, or other hand-held medical device.

Abstract: An instrument head for attachment to a plurality of instrument handles having different power sources is described. The instrument head includes at least one light-emitting diode, and a controller. When the controller detects an instability in a voltage input from a power source in an instrument handle attached to the instrument head, the controller transitions from a normal mode of operation to a mitigation mode of operation. The mitigation mode of operation prevents an increase in output of the at least one light-emitting diode for a predetermined period of time.

Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods for detecting a fluid infiltration event. A system includes a fluid delivery cannula having a distal end and a proximal end, a fluid source fluidly coupled to the proximal end of the fluid delivery cannula, and an optical sensor optically coupled to an interior of the fluid delivery cannula. The optical sensor is disposed between the distal end and the proximal end of the fluid delivery cannula and configured to generate an electronic signal based on one or more characteristics of light sensed in the interior of the fluid delivery cannula when fluid from the fluid source is passed therethrough. The system further includes a controller configured to receive the electronic signal from the optical sensor and determine a fluid infiltration event based on the electronic signal.

Abstract: An apparatus for configuring a remote management system that is used for remotely managing a plurality of medical device assets. The apparatus displays a user interface including a first plurality of selectors for enabling device component information in the remote management system, and a second plurality of selectors for enabling functionalities in the remote management system. The apparatus receives from the user interface one or more selections of the first and second pluralities of selectors for a medical device asset. The apparatus configures the remote management system to remotely manage the medical device asset based on the one or more selections of the first and second pluralities of selectors for the medical device asset.

Abstract: A system includes a base, and an emitter including a light source operable to generate a beam of visible radiation. The beam of radiation impinges a substantially horizontal support surface at a location approximately three meters from the emitter when the base is disposed on the support surface and the emitter is supported by the base. The system also includes a vision screening device supported by the base, the vision screening device having a first display, and a second display opposite the first display and facing the location. The system further includes a controller operable to cause the second display to output an image included in a visual acuity examination based at least in part on generation of the visible beam.

Abstract: A system for modifying a workflow on a medical device receives a request for activating a service type on the medical device. The system determines a geographic location of the medical device, and determines whether the service type is authorized for use in the geographical location of the medical device. The system activates the service type on the medical device when the service type is available for activation on the medical device and the service type is authorized for the geographic location of the medical device. The system modifies the workflow on the medical device based on the service type.

Abstract: A blood pressure cuff includes a smaller patient bladder extending laterally across the cuff and longitudinally along a minor portion of second and fourth perimeter segments of the cuff. The cuff also includes a larger patient bladder extending laterally across the cuff and longitudinally along a major portion of the second and fourth perimeter segments of the cuff. The smaller patient bladder and the larger patient bladder are fluidically isolated from each other. A small patient port projects through the smaller patient bladder on a first side of the cuff. A large patient port projects through the larger patient bladder on a second side of the cuff which is transversely opposite the first side.
