Abstract:
In a device for coupling a cardan half-joint with a fixed structure, such as a device for the subsea anchoring of a structure which uses cardan joints, the improvement consisting in that the half joint is of the cross-beam type and the main forks are formed by two half shells and there is an undercut abutment having the shape of a poppet. A better distribution of the pull stresses on the members of the joint is thus obtained, means being also provided to prevent the rotation of the joint.
Abstract:
Assembly of a shaft and a connecting element comprising a split collar of sheet metal having ear portions. The split is wide enough to allow the shaft to pass radially therethrough. An intermediate member is disposed in the split and bears against the shaft. A bolt and nut tightening means extends through the ear portions and the intermediate member co-operates with faces on the ear portions and/or with a face on the tightening means. The arrangement is such that a relative displacement between the ear portions, the intermediate member and the tightening means causes the shaft to be gripped inside the collar.
Abstract:
A universal joint is disclosed which is made primarily of plastic. A center cube of the joint has two pairs of opposed rod ends. The arms of bifurcate members may be molded directly about the rod ends, or on a bearing mounted about the rod ends. The bifurcate members may be all plastic or plastic-covered steel. The center cube and rod ends may be molded as one integral plastic unit or, if desired, the rods may be made of steel with the center cube made of plastic and molded about the rods.
Abstract:
An elastically resilient lubricant seal includes a deformable shoulder portion for interference fitted engagement with a bearing cup and has a purging channel extending through part of the shoulder to define a purging lip. Elastically resilient sidewalls of the channel provide a bias for the lip which is independent of the fit between the seal and cup. A hinged shield portion is provided for protecting the lip from external contaminants.
