    摘要: Disclosed herein are embodiments of a flexible connecting shaft for an intramedullary reamer. In each embodiment, several short segments or links are attached together to form an elongated flexible shaft which shaft is designed, due to the specific attachment means for the links, to bend along its longitudinal axis while transmitting torque without any lag in such transmission. A link at one end of the flexible shaft as made by a plurality of the links includes means provided for attachment to a torque providing device such as an electric motor. At the opposite end of the shaft, the last link includes structure thereon enabling connection to a drill bit. The various embodiments disclose different ways of interconnecting the links.

The contour forming tool is positioned to a transverse slide perpendicular to the drive axis. The workpiece is rotated relative to the contour forming tool and the desired contour is formed on the surface of the workpiece.

    摘要: A tool holder has compliance features that allow a hole to be drilled at high tolerances by a remote controlled control arm. The holes are drilled in a workpiece that has a template secured over it with guide holes for positioning the holes to be drilled. A self-feeding drill of the type that will simultaneously rotate and advance a drill bit is mounted in a support. A sleeve is carried at the forward end of the support for enclosing the drill bit. An index carriage moves the support forwardly into the guide hole after the control arm has substantially aligned the sleeve with the guide hole. Compliance mechanisms in the support allow the entire drill, drill bit and sleeve to move as a unit a limited amount parallel to and angularly with respect to the template and the indexing carriage, to allow advancement of the sleeve into the guide hole even though there may have been initial misalignment. The compliance mechanisms preferably include an inner guide member mounted within an outer guide member. Radially oriented, spring-biased pins retain the outer guide member. Resilient disks mounted in mating cavities retain and allow compliance of the inner guide member.

The nose piece includes a first opening which is disposed so as to cut through a portion of the bore. Means are described for urging the pin axially in its opening to a position where it cooperates with the contour of the bit to retain the latter in the tool once inserted.

The sleeve is then deformed to clamp the two members together.     摘要: An adjustable tension and/or compression tap holder includes a shank adapted for rotative drive and longitudinal feed and mounting a drive socket at one end. A cylindrical carrier slidably nested within said socket and has a series of drive slots which receive a corresponding series of drive balls nested within said socket interconnecting said shank and carrier for rotation in unison and providing for longitudinal adjustment of the carrier relative to the socket. The carrier is adapted to receive a tap retaining bushing. A tension and compression adjusting screw is nested within said shank and at one end, loosely secured upon said carrier. A tension and compression adjusting nut is threaded into said shank and is interconnected with said screw so that rotation of the screw will effect longitudinal adjustment of the adjusting nut. The tension spring is interposed between said nut and said screw biasing the screw inwardly of the socket and an additional compression spring is interposed between said nut and carrier whereby longitudinal adjustment of the nut regulates the degree of tension and compression within the longitudinal scope of the carrier and connected screw relative to said shank and socket.
